Amid growing public anger over chronic traffic congestion and widespread encroachments in Gautam Budh Nagar (Noida), Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh has taken decisive action against traffic officials for their negligence and failure to implement directives aimed at improving traffic flow.
Commissioner’s Directives Ignored
Despite repeated instructions from Commissioner Laxmi Singh, a 2000-batch IPS officer, to streamline traffic operations and ease congestion, key officials failed to comply. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Lakhan Singh and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Pawan Kumar did not effectively implement the Commissioner’s orders, which included:
-
Preparing an actionable traffic diversion plan,
-
Delegating duties in writing to subordinates, and
-
Ensuring consistent on-ground monitoring and enforcement.
The continued disregard for these directives has resulted in severe traffic disruptions, particularly in high-density areas of Noida and Greater Noida.
System Review Reveals Major Lapses
A detailed review of the district’s traffic system was conducted on Saturday, revealing serious shortcomings in operational planning, inadequate deployment of personnel, and lack of accountability at various levels. Field monitoring was found to be insufficient, and the overall traffic management system was deemed poorly executed.
Administrative Action Taken
In response to these findings:
-
ACP (Traffic) Pawan Kumar has been suspended.
-
DCP (Traffic) Lakhan Singh has been served a notice demanding an explanation for his failure to enforce the Commissioner’s instructions.
Disciplinary Action Against 12 Traffic Personnel
The crackdown has extended beyond senior officers. Disciplinary measures have also been initiated against lower-level staff:
-
1 Traffic Inspector (TI) and 2 Traffic Sub-Inspectors (TSIs) have been penalized.
-
During orderly room proceedings, 1 Chief Constable and 4 Constables from the traffic wing also faced disciplinary action for negligence.
Commissioner Issues Strong Warning
Commissioner Laxmi Singh has reiterated that poor traffic management directly affects public life and warned that there will be zero tolerance for negligence going forward.
“The public suffers when officials fail to do their duty. Those who neglect their responsibilities will be held accountable,” she stated firmly.
The Road Ahead: Strategic Overhaul Expected
With Noida and Greater Noida witnessing rapid urban growth, the spotlight is now on the police to deliver effective traffic solutions. Fresh directives are expected to include:
-
Deployment of traffic marshals at key congestion points,
-
Use of real-time technology for traffic monitoring,
-
Systematic removal of roadside encroachments, and
-
Written duty assignments to ensure personnel accountability.
As pressure mounts on law enforcement to address these urban challenges, the coming weeks will be critical in determining whether tangible improvements can be delivered on the ground.
