UPSC CSE 2024: Punjab Gets Four IAS Officers, Haryana Six; Jalandhar’s Gurkanwal Singh Secures Home-Cadre Posting
The Department of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions (DoPT) has officially published the cadre allocation for Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers appointed through the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2024. As per the notification, Punjab has been allotted four newly inducted IAS officers, while Haryana will receive six officers from the same batch.
With the release of this list, the cadre assignments have come into force with immediate effect. The newly selected officers will complete their compulsory foundation and professional training before reporting to their respective state cadres for field postings.
Among the Punjab allocations, particular attention has been drawn to Gurkanwal Singh, a 27-year-old officer from Jalandhar, who secured an All India Rank of 353 in the UPSC CSE-2024. Having successfully cleared the examination, he has been assigned the Punjab cadre, marking a rare and much-preferred home-state posting for a new IAS officer.
Punjab Cadre: Officers and State Representation
The four IAS officers posted to the Punjab cadre represent a diverse geographical background, reflecting the all-India character of the civil services.
The officers are:
Adiba Anam Ashfaque Ahmad, originally from Maharashtra
Himanshu, a native of Uttarakhand
Gurkanwal Singh, from Punjab, receiving his home-cadre allotment
Subrat Singh Balot, hailing from Delhi
Gurkanwal Singh’s posting to Punjab is being seen as especially significant, as home-cadre allocations are relatively less common and highly sought after. Such postings often offer officers deeper administrative insight due to familiarity with local language, social conditions, and governance challenges.
Haryana Cadre: Six Officers Assigned
Haryana has been allotted six IAS officers from the CSE-2024 batch.
The officers posted to the Haryana cadre are:
Muskan Srivastava
Vivek Yadav
Sohan Shallendra
Amitej Pangtey
Shivani Panchal
Vishal Singh
These officers will join the Haryana administration following completion of their training and will be deployed across various departments as per state requirements.
Nationwide Allocation and Administrative Importance
According to the DoPT, cadre allocation orders have been communicated to the chief secretaries of all concerned states and Union Territories. In total, 179 IAS officers have been allocated cadres from the 2024 batch, ensuring administrative staffing across the country.
Cadre allocation is a critical element of India’s civil services system, designed to maintain a balance between regional representation and national integration. Officers may be posted to states other than their place of origin to promote neutrality, administrative diversity, and broader governance experience. However, when officers like Gurkanwal Singh are allotted their home cadre, it is often viewed as beneficial for efficient administration and long-term service impact.
With these allocations finalized, both Punjab and Haryana are set to strengthen their administrative machinery with fresh leadership drawn from the latest IAS batch.
