This IPS posting is being considered as a step toward revamping the K-RIDE administrative setup as the project enters a crucial execution phase.
In a significant administrative development, the Karnataka government has appointed IAS officer Vasanthi Amar B.V. as the Special Deputy Commissioner of the Railway Infrastructure Development Company, Karnataka (K-RIDE), effective immediately.
Vasanthi Amar, a 2017-batch IAS officer, had been awaiting a new assignment. She previously held the position of Special Deputy Commissioner-3 in Bengaluru Urban District (North).
Move to Strengthen K-RIDE Leadership
This appointment comes at a time when there is increasing pressure to enhance leadership at K-RIDE. Bangalore South MP Tejasvi Surya has been vocal in demanding the appointment of a full-time technocrat as Managing Director, emphasizing that such leadership is critical for the timely execution and efficient oversight of the long-delayed Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP).
About K-RIDE
K-RIDE is a special purpose vehicle (SPV) formed through a joint venture between the Karnataka government and Indian Railways. Its primary objective is to implement the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project—an initiative aimed at addressing the city’s chronic traffic congestion.
Currently, Manjula N holds dual roles as the Managing Director of K-RIDE and Secretary of the Infrastructure Development, Ports, and Inland Water Transport Department.
Vasanthi Amar’s appointment is seen as a strategic step towards overhauling the administrative structure of K-RIDE as the project advances into a critical implementation phase.
