In a significant administrative and security-related appointment, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has named senior IPS officer Anand Jain as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of the Union Territory of Ladakh. The appointment places one of the AGMUT cadre’s most experienced police officers in charge of law enforcement and security management in one of India’s most strategically important regions.

A 1999-batch Indian Police Service officer of the AGMUT cadre, Anand Jain was serving as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Armed Police, Jammu and Kashmir, before being assigned to Ladakh. The transfer order was issued on June 22, 2026, and is being viewed as a crucial move given Ladakh’s growing importance in India’s security framework.

With more than two and a half decades of experience in policing, intelligence coordination, anti-corruption enforcement, and counter-terror operations, Jain now assumes responsibility for leading the police force in a region that remains at the center of India’s national security priorities.

Takes Over from K.K. Sharma

Anand Jain succeeds K.K. Sharma, who had been holding the additional charge of DGP, Ladakh.

The arrangement came into effect after former Ladakh police chief Mukesh Singh was transferred and appointed Director General of Police of Manipur. Since then, Sharma had been handling the responsibilities of the post until a full-time appointment was made.
