As part of the 127th training programme for newly-inducted Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers, the Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) organized an insightful study tour on Saturday, aimed at providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of the port’s modern infrastructure and maritime operations.

Coordinated by VPA Secretary T. Venu Gopal, the visit is part of a larger initiative to acquaint future administrators with key national infrastructure and the complex logistical ecosystems that drive India’s development.

During the tour, senior department heads at VPA delivered in-depth presentations on the port’s cargo handling capacities, current developmental projects, notable milestones, and future growth plans. Among the highlights was VPA’s ambitious goal to achieve 90 million metric tonnes (MMT) in cargo throughput, building on its record-setting performance in the previous financial year.

The officers also embarked on a guided tour of the port’s operational zones within its water limits, where they observed firsthand the scale, precision, and efficiency of maritime operations that make VPA a vital node in India’s logistics and trade network.

VPA officials emphasized the port’s pivotal role in bolstering national economic growth and global trade connectivity. The exposure tour offered the IAS officers valuable insights into infrastructure governance, port management, and strategic development planning—key areas relevant to their future roles in public administration.
