West Bengal Transfers 12 IAS Officers in Major Administrative Reshuffle Ahead of Assembly Polls; Siyad N Named DM of North 24 Parganas
The Government of West Bengal has implemented a notable bureaucratic reshuffle involving 12 officers of the Indian Administrative Service across several key departments and districts. One of the most prominent changes in the latest order is the assignment of additional responsibilities to Anshul Gupta, who has been entrusted with the additional charge of Municipal Commissioner of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
The administrative overhaul is being viewed as a strategic adjustment within the bureaucracy ahead of the forthcoming West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections.
Anshul Gupta Given Crucial Responsibility in Kolkata
As per the official notification issued in Kolkata, Anshul Gupta, who is presently serving as the Chief Executive Officer of the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority, will now simultaneously hold the additional position of Municipal Commissioner of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
In addition to these responsibilities, he has also been designated as the District Election Officer for Kolkata (North), further expanding his administrative role.
Earlier in his career, Gupta served as an Officer on Special Duty in the state government and is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi.
Changes in Municipal Administration and Election Roles
Under the new transfer orders, Sumit Gupta, who previously held the position of Municipal Commissioner of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, has been assigned additional responsibilities.
He will now serve as District Election Officer for Kolkata (South) while also taking charge of the Directorate of Land Records and Surveys, West Bengal.
New District Magistrates Appointed in Several Districts
The reshuffle also includes the appointment of new District Magistrates in multiple districts across the state.
• Nikhil Sharma, who has been serving as Managing Director of the West Bengal Small Industries Development Corporation Limited, has been appointed District Magistrate of Nadia.
• Shewale Abhijit Tukaram, Special Secretary in the Animal Resources Development Department, has been posted as District Magistrate of Alipurduar.
• Siyad N, who was previously serving as District Magistrate of Bankura, has been transferred as the new District Magistrate of North 24 Parganas.
• Anish Das Gupta, who earlier held the post of District Magistrate of Nadia, has now been appointed District Magistrate of Bankura.
Other Administrative Transfers Announced
The state government has also announced several additional postings and transfers involving officers in different administrative positions.
• Surendra Kumar Meena, who was serving as District Magistrate of North Dinajpur, has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority.
• Shantanu Bala, formerly Additional District Magistrate of Cooch Behar, has been transferred as Additional District Magistrate of Murshidabad.
• Srinivas Venkat Rao Patil, who earlier served as ADM of West Medinipur, has been posted as ADM of Bankura.
• Vivek Pankaj, previously Sub-Divisional Officer of Raghunathpur in Purulia, has been appointed Joint Secretary in the state’s Fisheries and Aquaculture Department.
• Surabhi Singla, who served as SDO of Kharagpur, has been transferred as SDO of Raghunathpur in Purulia.
• Shubham Maurya, formerly Sub-Divisional Officer of Khatra, has been appointed SDO of Bongaon.
Objective Behind the Administrative Reshuffle
Officials indicated that the transfers are aimed at strengthening governance mechanisms and improving administrative efficiency across the state.
Periodic reshuffles within the bureaucracy are a common practice in government service and are intended to ensure effective management of departments and districts while enhancing coordination in the delivery of public services.
