Haryana IPS Officer Y. Puran Kumar’s Death: Multiple Suicide Notes Found, Wife Levels Grave Allegations
The mystery surrounding the death of senior IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar (2001 batch) has taken a dramatic turn with fresh revelations. The officer, who ended his life on October 7 at his home in Chandigarh, reportedly left three separate suicide notes behind.
One handwritten note was recovered immediately at the scene, while the other two came to light after his wife — senior IAS officer Amneet P. Kumar (2001 batch) — returned from Japan. She found one note tucked inside his laptop bag and another version saved as a typed document on his laptop.
Wife Files Complaint, Accuses Senior Officers of Conspiracy
Amneet has submitted a formal police complaint accusing DGP Shatrujeet Kapoor and Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarnia of plotting against her husband by fabricating evidence. According to her, the officer had been continuously harassed, falsely implicated, and silenced through intimidation. She has sought action under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act as well as Section 108 of the IPC (abetment of suicide), alleging that the DGP deliberately suppressed crucial material while the SP ignored her repeated calls for help.
Final Hours: Silent Basement, 15 Missed Calls, Daughter’s Discovery
Before taking the extreme step, Puran Kumar is said to have sent his wife both a nine-page suicide note and a detailed will. Distressed, Amneet tried calling him 15 times, but all her calls went unanswered. Fearing the worst, she asked their daughter Amulya to check. On reaching the house, Amulya found the basement locked from the inside. After breaking in, she discovered her father on the sofa, gravely injured with a bleeding head wound.
The household cook later confirmed that earlier that morning, Kumar had asked not to be disturbed and chose to remain in the basement. At around 11 a.m., he briefly came upstairs to order food before going back down, after which there was complete silence.
Will and Family’s Stand on Post-Mortem
In a will drafted on October 6, just a day before his death, Kumar transferred ownership of all his assets — including his Chandigarh bungalow, a Mohali plot, property in Gurgaon, along with bank deposits and shares — solely to his wife Amneet.
After returning to India, Amneet announced she would not consent to a post-mortem until those she blames are taken into custody. The body remains under medical custody while the family continues to demand accountability. She has described her husband’s death as a test case for the system, vowing: “I will not rest until the guilty are punished.”
Suicide Notes Allegedly Name Senior Officials, Cite Harassment and Discrimination
According to reports, the suicide notes contain direct references to several high-ranking officers, among them –
Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi
Former Chief Secretary T.V.S.N. Prasad
Ex-DGPs Manoj Yadav, P.K. Aggarwal, Rajiv Arora
IPS officers Kulwinder Singh, Mata Ravi Kiran, and others
The allegations outlined include sustained caste-based harassment, denial of fair postings, malicious transfers, tampering of official documents, circulation of false cases, and systematic damage to his professional reputation. In his final remarks, Kumar accused DGP Kapoor and SP Bijarnia of deliberately making him a target, asserting that repeated complaints from his side were consistently ignored.
