Who Is Pattanshetti Ravi Subash? 2013-Batch IAS Officer Gets Key Andhra Pradesh Tourism Charge
The Andhra Pradesh government has handed a significant tourism responsibility to Pattanshetti Ravi Subash, a 2013-batch IAS officer of the Andhra Pradesh cadre, appointing him as Managing Director of the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) as well as Chief Executive Officer of the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Authority (APTA). The twin assignment puts him at the centre of the state’s efforts to expand tourism infrastructure, improve visitor facilities, promote destinations and give greater institutional momentum to the sector.
Ravi Subash takes over the two key tourism positions after serving as Secretary of the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC). He assumed charge as Managing Director of APTDC on August 7, 2026, according to available service details. With both APTDC and APTA now under his leadership, the officer will have a broad mandate covering not just tourism promotion but also destination development, infrastructure, investment-related initiatives and coordination between different government agencies.
Who Is Pattanshetti Ravi Subash?
Pattanshetti Ravi Subash is a 2013-batch IAS officer of the Andhra Pradesh cadre who entered the Indian Administrative Service as a direct recruit through the UPSC Civil Services Examination. Born on April 14, 1985, he has an academic background in engineering and holds a B.Tech degree in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from Pune University, having studied at the PES Modern College of Engineering.
Originally from Maharashtra, Ravi Subash is proficient in English and Telugu, and his career in the IAS has taken him through a wide range of administrative assignments in Andhra Pradesh. Over more than 13 years in government service, he has worked in areas as varied as district administration, revenue, health, energy, agriculture and public service administration.
That mix of field experience and departmental exposure is particularly relevant to his new tourism role, where policy decisions have to eventually translate into projects, visitor facilities and destination-level improvements.
From APPSC Secretary to Tourism Administration
Before moving into tourism, Ravi Subash was serving as Secretary of the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission. The assignment gave him experience in managing a major constitutional recruitment institution and dealing with administrative processes at the state level.
His tenure at APPSC followed several field and departmental postings. In March 2026, while serving as APPSC Secretary, he was also entrusted with the full additional charge of Director of Agriculture and Marketing, adding another layer to his administrative responsibilities.
His latest posting marks a notable shift. Instead of focusing primarily on recruitment and public service administration, he will now be responsible for a sector that directly connects government policy with infrastructure, investment, employment, culture and the visitor economy.
APTDC and APTA Now Under His Charge
As MD of APTDC and CEO of APTA, Ravi Subash will occupy two positions that are closely connected but have distinct institutional functions. The arrangement offers scope for greater coordination between the operational arm of tourism development and the authority responsible for broader policy and sectoral planning.
His responsibilities are expected to include improving tourism infrastructure, developing visitor amenities, promoting Andhra Pradesh’s destinations and supporting initiatives designed to attract tourists and investment. He will also have to coordinate with various departments and agencies because tourism development frequently involves roads, transport, accommodation, heritage conservation, sanitation, urban development and local administration.
The challenge is not simply to promote existing destinations. It is also about making those destinations easier to access, more visitor-friendly and capable of supporting sustained economic activity.
Significant Experience as Anakapalli Collector
One of the more important field assignments in Ravi Subash’s career was his tenure as Collector and District Magistrate of Anakapalli district. He served in the position for around two years and nine months, gaining substantial experience in district administration and implementation of government programmes at the grassroots level.
During his tenure in Anakapalli, his work also received recognition in connection with efforts to promote Swasth Bharat through Health and Wellness Centres in the district. The recognition highlighted initiatives aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery and making better use of Health and Wellness Centres.
A district collector’s role involves managing a remarkably broad administrative canvas, from development programmes and revenue matters to law and order, welfare delivery and coordination among government departments. That experience could prove useful in tourism, where successful projects often depend on effective coordination at the district level.
Experience Across Health, Energy and Revenue
Ravi Subash has also worked in several important departments of the Andhra Pradesh government. His assignments have included serving as Deputy Secretary in the Health and Family Welfare Department in Vijayawada, where he dealt with matters connected with the state’s health administration.
He has handled responsibilities in the Energy and Revenue Departments as well, giving him exposure to sectors with very different administrative and policy requirements. His district-level experience includes serving as Additional District Magistrate in Kurnool and Joint Collector (Revenue Bonds and Rehabilitation), Kurnool.
This combination of state secretariat work and field administration has given him experience in both policymaking and implementation. For a tourism administrator, that can be particularly valuable because destination development rarely ends with issuing a government order – it requires land, infrastructure, funding, local coordination and sustained monitoring.
A Career Spanning Around 11 Assignments
Over the course of his IAS career, Ravi Subash has held around 11 distinct administrative assignments across different departments and districts. His profile has included positions such as Secretary, Chief Executive Officer, District Collector and Magistrate, Additional District Magistrate, Project Officer, Sub Collector, Assistant Secretary and Chairman and Managing Director.
The breadth of these postings is one of the more notable features of his career. He has moved between field administration, policy departments, institutional management and development-oriented assignments, building experience across several layers of government.
His move into tourism therefore adds another major area to an already diverse administrative portfolio. The new responsibility will test his ability to combine those experiences into a coherent strategy for one of Andhra Pradesh’s emerging growth sectors.
Andhra Pradesh’s Tourism Potential
Andhra Pradesh has a broad tourism portfolio, stretching from its long coastline and beaches to religious centres, historic locations, cultural attractions, forests and wildlife destinations. The state also has significant scope for developing tourism circuits that connect multiple attractions rather than treating individual destinations as isolated sites.
That makes infrastructure a crucial part of the tourism story. Visitors need reliable roads and transport links, quality accommodation, clean public spaces, clear information, food and hospitality facilities and well-managed attractions. Promotion can bring attention to a destination, but the visitor experience ultimately determines whether tourists return or recommend it to others.
Ravi Subash’s new assignment comes against this backdrop. His job will involve not only showcasing Andhra Pradesh but also helping build the infrastructure and institutional ecosystem needed to support sustained tourist footfall.
Tourism as an Economic Driver
The state government’s focus on tourism also reflects the sector’s wider economic potential. Tourism can generate employment across hotels, restaurants, transport, handicrafts, retail, entertainment and local services, while also creating opportunities for communities located around major destinations.
A well-developed tourism ecosystem can bring economic activity beyond major cities and support smaller towns and rural areas with distinctive cultural, historical or natural attractions. For Andhra Pradesh, that creates an opportunity to link tourism development with regional economic growth.
The dual charge given to Ravi Subash could help bring policy and implementation closer together. With APTDC and APTA under one officer, there is greater scope to coordinate infrastructure projects, destination promotion, investment initiatives and institutional planning.
What Lies Ahead for Ravi Subash?
The immediate task for the 2013-batch IAS officer will be to translate the state’s tourism ambitions into visible outcomes on the ground. That means improving destinations, strengthening infrastructure, developing visitor facilities and creating a more coordinated promotional strategy for Andhra Pradesh.
His previous experience across district administration, health, energy, revenue, agriculture and the APPSC has given him exposure to very different aspects of government functioning. Tourism will now require him to bring those administrative skills together in a sector where government policy, private investment, local communities and visitor expectations all intersect.
With Ravi Subash now holding the key posts of APTDC Managing Director and APTA CEO, Andhra Pradesh has placed a seasoned administrator at the centre of its tourism machinery. The coming months will show how effectively he can use his field experience and institutional background to strengthen the state’s tourism infrastructure, improve destination management and position Andhra Pradesh as a more attractive destination for both domestic and international travellers.
