“Listen to your inner voice. Choose your path with clarity, and follow it with conviction—nothing is impossible,” said DC Komal Mittal, as she addressed students in a heartfelt mentoring session at the School of Eminence, Phase 11, Mohali.

Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal, a 2014-batch IAS officer from the Punjab cadre, made her first visit to the school in her new role as mentor—leaving a lasting impression on Class 10 and 12 students through her compelling story of resilience, transformation, and ambition.

The session was prompted by a heartfelt request from Class 12 student Sapna, who wanted to hear about the DC’s personal journey. Speaking candidly in the school library, DC Mittal recounted her own academic transition—from a pre-medical student to a commerce graduate, a shift made possible by the unwavering support of her businessman father. She then pursued an MBA before deciding to take the Civil Services Examination.

Her first attempt earned her an IRS berth with an All India Rank of 125, but she didn’t stop there. While undergoing training, she took the exam again—and this time secured an outstanding All India Rank of 19, fulfilling her dream of joining the Indian Administrative Service. She is the first IAS officer in her family.

The session, originally slated for 30 minutes, extended to over 90 minutes, as students opened up about their dreams and sought advice. When a student, Guneet, asked how to develop self-confidence, the DC invited her to speak on stage—instantly empowering her. Guneet confidently declared her ambition to become a Chartered Accountant.

The interactive dialogue sparked aspirations across disciplines. Students like Harmeet and Simran expressed interest in the medical field, while others—Rajinder, Mohit Singh, and Mohit Rawat—felt drawn to commerce after learning about the DC’s journey.

Encouraged by the enthusiasm, DC Mittal promised monthly mentoring sessions, urging students to return with questions and clearly defined goals. “I’m truly happy to mentor such bright minds,” she said. “I’ll do my best to guide them at every step.”

She also expressed her gratitude to Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann for the opportunity to mentor students under the School of Eminence program. She directed DEO Ginni Duggal and Principal Lovish Chawla to compile a list of possible initiatives and called upon community members to support the academic and personal growth of these promising students.

The session concluded on a note of renewed hope and energy, with students looking forward to more such meaningful and motivational interactions with their new mentor.
