The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has curtailed the tenure of Satyabrata Kumar (IRS C&IT: 2004) as Special Director in the Directorate of Enforcement (ED), ending his term approximately 17 months ahead of the original end date of October 27, 2026.
Acting on the proposal of the Department of Revenue, the ACC has ordered his premature repatriation to his parent cadre, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).
It is notable that while serving as Special Director (in-charge) of the Western Region, Kumar was transferred to the Eastern Region (Kolkata) ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections — a move that drew attention within bureaucratic and political circles.
Kumar was initially appointed as Special Director in the ED on December 20, 2022, following his tenure as Additional Director.
