The Telangana High Court will once again hear the criminal revision petition filed by senior IAS officer Y. Srilakshmi (1988 batch), who is one of the accused in the high-profile Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) illegal mining case. This development follows a Supreme Court directive remanding the matter back to the High Court, citing that the earlier ruling had failed to properly consider the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) arguments.
On Monday, Justice K. Lakshman instructed the High Court Registry to list the case again before his bench for a fresh hearing in compliance with the apex court’s order.
Case Background
Srilakshmi, an IAS officer from the Andhra Pradesh cadre, is among those charged in the OMC case involving serious allegations of illegal mining. A CBI special court had previously rejected her plea for discharge from the case, prompting her to file a revision petition in the High Court.
While the High Court had initially ruled in her favor—overturning the special court’s dismissal—the CBI challenged that verdict in the Supreme Court. The CBI argued that its submissions were not properly addressed during the High Court’s revision hearing.
Agreeing with the CBI’s stance, the Supreme Court remanded the case back to the Telangana High Court for reconsideration.
Related Developments
The High Court’s directive came during the ongoing hearing of bail petitions filed by Gali Janardhan Reddy and others, who were earlier convicted and sentenced to seven years in the same illegal mining case. Reddy, a former Karnataka minister, has remained a key figure in the OMC scandal for over a decade.
