The opposition in Rajasthan has sharply criticized the state government over an ongoing six-month delay in assigning postings to IAS, IPS, and Tehsildar officers promoted in January 2025. Despite receiving promotions, these officers have yet to be given their new roles, raising concerns over administrative stagnation and governance inefficiency.
Opposition leaders have flagged the issue as a major governance lapse, warning that the delay is severely undermining bureaucratic functioning and disrupting the delivery of essential public services. Nearly 250 promoted Tehsildars continue to serve in their previous junior roles, leading to administrative gridlock at the grassroots level.
“This kind of prolonged delay in routine postings is unheard of and points to a deeper administrative paralysis,” said former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.
Delay Impacts Public Services and Officer Morale
Critics argue that the delay is not only lowering officer morale but also affecting citizens who rely on timely government services. They contend that stalled postings are delaying the rollout of welfare schemes and slowing decision-making across departments, which in turn hampers the state’s overall progress.
Gehlot has described the situation as “administrative chaos,” urging the government to act without further delay.
In a recent social media statement, he said, “This is more than just a matter of promotions and appointments. It is a question of effective governance and the government’s ability to respond to people’s needs.”
He added that the delay is demotivating officers and weakening their commitment, thereby damaging the state’s public service delivery framework.
Government Denies Allegations, Claims Process is Transparent
In response, the ruling party has refuted claims of administrative failure, insisting that all postings are being managed according to proper procedure with full transparency. Government officials have attributed the delay to procedural requirements and assured that pending appointments will be finalized soon.
However, the opposition remains unconvinced and continues to press for urgent administrative reforms to enhance accountability, ensure timely postings, and restore governance efficiency.
Mounting Political Pressure as Citizens Await Action
With public dissatisfaction rising, political pressure is building on the state government to clear the backlog of pending postings and improve administrative responsiveness. Leaders from both political sides, along with civil society voices, emphasize that resolving this issue is crucial to regaining public trust and accelerating Rajasthan’s governance and development agenda.
