DoPT Notification Confirms Promotion of Maharashtra Revenue Officials to IAS Ranks

In a significant administrative development, the Central Government has promoted 12 Maharashtra State Civil Services officers to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) cadre under the 2024 Select List. The appointments, approved by the President of India, were formalized through an official notification issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).

Legal Basis: Made under Rule 8(1) of IAS (Recruitment) Rules, 1954, and Regulation 9(1) of IAS (Appointment by Promotion) Regulations, 1955

Cadre Allocation: Officers have been assigned to the Maharashtra cadre as per Rule 5(1) of IAS (Cadre) Rules, 1954

Probationary Status: Appointments are on probation, subject to final outcomes of pending legal cases

Maharashtra Revenue Minister Hails the Move

Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule celebrated the promotions, stating:

“A new chapter has been added to the Maharashtra Administrative Service today. These promotions reflect the officers’ dedication and the government’s commitment to strengthening governance.”

He emphasized that the Revenue Department—the backbone of state administration—has earned this recognition through its public welfare initiatives and credited Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for fostering a merit-driven system.
