Meghalaya: Donald Philip Wahlang set to retire, Shakil P Ahmed might be successor

A significant leadership transition has been officially confirmed within the Meghalaya state administration. Chief Secretary Donald Philip Wahlang (IAS:1993:AM) is set to retire from his distinguished service on the 30th of September, 2025. This retirement will conclude his notable period of leadership at the highest level of the state’s bureaucratic structure.

The state government has formally issued a notification in anticipation of this upcoming change in bureaucratic leadership. Mr. Wahlang has held the pivotal position of Chief Secretary since the 1st of August, 2022, having taken over the responsibilities from his predecessor, Rebecca V. Suchiang (IAS:1989:AM). Throughout his tenure, he has been widely recognized for guiding and directing essential governance initiatives during a period of considerable activity and change for the state of Meghalaya.

Ahammed (IAS:1995:AM), who currently holds the position of Additional Chief Secretary, is now being considered the most probable and leading candidate for the role of the next Chief Secretary of Meghalaya.
