Appointment of Mr Arun G. (IES:2012) as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, New Delhi

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Mr Arun G., an officer of the Indian Economic Service (IES), 2012 batch, to the post of Deputy Secretary in the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare (DoAFW), New Delhi. His appointment has been made under the Central Staffing Scheme (CSS) for a tenure of four years from the date he assumes charge of the post, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Mr Arun G. was recommended for Central deputation by the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), Ministry of Finance. He has been directed to be relieved of his current responsibilities immediately, with instructions to take up his new assignment in the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare without delay.

The posting is significant, as the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare is the nodal body responsible for formulation and implementation of national agricultural policies, schemes for farmers’ welfare, food security, and rural livelihood enhancement. As Deputy Secretary, Mr Arun will be contributing to policy design, program implementation, and inter-ministerial coordination aimed at advancing farmer-centric reforms and agricultural sustainability.

The order further underscores compliance with the standing instructions of the ACC, as conveyed in the DoPT Circular No. 3/4/2004-EO(MM-I) dated 17 August 2005, which stipulates that an officer must assume charge of the post within three weeks from the date of issue of the appointment order. Failure to do so will result in the initiation of debarment proceedings from the Central Staffing Scheme, in accordance with established rules and procedures.

This appointment reflects the government’s ongoing focus on placing experienced economic and policy professionals in key positions to strengthen the country’s agricultural governance framework and deliver measurable benefits to farmers.
