Haryana Police Suicides Trigger Online Storm; DGP OP Singh Denounces Morale Claims as Misleading Sensationalism

The tragic deaths of two Haryana police officers, including Rohtak’s ASI Sandeep Lathar, have sparked intense debate and speculation across social media platforms. In the wake of these incidents, Director General of Police O.P. Singh has strongly refuted suggestions that the morale of the state’s police force is in decline, calling such narratives exaggerated and disconnected from reality.

Tragedy and Allegations: A Closer Look

ASI Sandeep Lathar reportedly died by suicide after making serious allegations of corruption involving the late IPS officer Y Puran Kumar and his family. Just days earlier, on October 7, 2025, IPS officer Kumar was found deceased at his residence in Chandigarh, under circumstances that prompted further scrutiny.

DGP Singh expressed sorrow over the loss of both officers, acknowledging the emotional toll on the department while reaffirming the Haryana Police’s dedication to public service and law enforcement.

Online Speculation vs Ground Truth

Addressing the media, Singh drew a sharp distinction between digital discourse and actual conditions within the force. “We’re living in two parallel worlds—one shaped by social media, and the other grounded in reality. The morale of our officers remains intact,” he said.

He criticized the spread of alarmist content online, noting that such posts often attract global attention and serve commercial interests, particularly benefiting platforms based in the United States.

Police Strength and Legal Commitment

Singh emphasized that the Haryana Police continues to operate with unity and resolve, even amid challenges. Drawing comparisons to conflict-ridden regions like Syria and Kabul, he asserted that the force remains committed to safeguarding citizens under the newly implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which enshrines the right to self-defense and protection of others.

Welfare Measures and Institutional Support

The DGP also highlighted the importance of supporting officers beyond their professional duties. He mentioned ongoing efforts to enhance internal welfare mechanisms, including initiatives led by the Officers’ Wives’ Association, aimed at preventing future tragedies and promoting mental well-being within the ranks.
