Officer to continue as Director under the Central Staffing Scheme till January 2028 or until further orders
In a recent personnel decision, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Steel for the extension of the Central deputation tenure of Shri Gopalakrishnan Ganesan, an officer of the Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS), 2010 batch.
As per the official communication, Shri Ganesan, who is currently serving as Director in the Ministry of Steel under the Central Staffing Scheme, will continue on Central deputation for an additional period of two years — beyond January 3, 2026, and up to January 3, 2028, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Shri Gopalakrishnan Ganesan has been on Central deputation since March 13, 2021, contributing to key policy, administrative, and financial matters within the Ministry of Steel. His work has been closely associated with initiatives aimed at strengthening India’s steel sector, promoting industrial efficiency, and ensuring fiscal prudence in public sector undertakings.
The extension, approved by the ACC chaired by the Prime Minister, is intended to provide continuity and administrative stability within the Ministry as it advances ongoing projects and sectoral reforms in line with the National Steel Policy and the government’s industrial growth agenda.
The order regarding the extension was formally issued from New Delhi, with copies marked to the Prime Minister’s Office (Ms. Manmeet Kaur, Director), Cabinet Secretariat (Ms. Kavita Singh, Joint Secretary), and senior officials including the PS to Minister of State (Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions), PSO to Secretary (Personnel), and Establishment Officer Division.
This decision reflects the government’s recognition of Shri Ganesan’s contribution to the Ministry’s operations and its emphasis on retaining experienced officers in critical economic ministries to ensure consistent policy implementation and sectoral coordination.
