ACC Extends Central Deputation of IAS Officer Gitanjali Gupta as Additional Secretary, NITI Aayog Till February 2028

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has formally approved the continuation of the central deputation tenure of senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Ms. Gitanjali Gupta (AGMUT: 1996), who is currently serving as Additional Secretary in the NITI Aayog.

According to the official decision, Ms. Gupta’s deputation has been extended for an additional period of two years beyond the completion of her existing tenure on February 3, 2026. With this approval, her central posting will now remain valid up to February 3, 2028, or until further orders are issued, whichever comes earlier.

Ms. Gitanjali Gupta is a 1996-batch AGMUT cadre IAS officer and has been holding the position of Additional Secretary at NITI Aayog, the Government of India’s premier policy think tank. Her continued presence at the apex policy body is expected to provide stability and continuity in policy formulation, inter-ministerial coordination, and strategic governance initiatives.

The extension underscores the government’s confidence in her administrative experience, leadership capabilities, and contribution to key national policy processes being steered by NITI Aayog. Such tenure extensions are typically granted to ensure the uninterrupted execution of critical policy initiatives and institutional priorities at the central level.

This decision by the ACC reaffirms the Centre’s emphasis on retaining seasoned officers in crucial policymaking roles, particularly at a time when long-term developmental planning and governance reforms remain high on the national agenda.
