Apex Pay Scale to two top cops B Srinivasan and Sapna Tewari

According to the recent order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on February 7, 2026, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has granted the Apex Pay Scale (Level-17) to two Indian Police Services officers. B Srinivasan and Sapna Tewari are among the two chosen police officers.

Effective Date: The promotion is effective immediately.

Background: The approval follows a proposal from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) dated January 27, 2026.

Significance: Level-17 is the highest pay level in the Indian civil services, typically reserved for officers holding the rank of Director General of Police (DGP) at the Centre or heads of major internal security and intelligence agencies.

Talk about the profile of B. Srinivasan, the top cop is a veteran with over three decades of experience, including extensive service in Kashmir. He took over as the head of the NSG (the “Black Cats”) in August 2024.

On the other hand, Sapna Tewari is Currently serving in a critical leadership role within the Intelligence Bureau, her promotion recognizes her seniority and specialized contributions to national intelligence.
