In a landmark development for Rajasthan Police, Dr. Amrita Duhan, a doctor-turned Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, has been appointed as the first woman Superintendent of Police (SP) of Udaipur. Her appointment follows a recent administrative reshuffle and is being hailed as a historic moment for the district, which is both a major tourist hub and a tribal region facing unique policing challenges.

From Medicine to Policing: An Inspiring Journey

Born on November 11, 1983, in Rohtak, Haryana, Dr. Duhan initially pursued a career in medicine. She completed her MBBS, followed by an MD in Pathology and a Diplomate of National Board (DNB) qualification. She worked as an Assistant Professor at BPS Medical College for Women, enjoying a stable medical career before deciding to follow her long-standing dream of joining the civil services.

After the birth of her son, she began preparing for the UPSC Civil Services Examination, balancing family responsibilities with rigorous study. Her determination paid off when she cleared the exam in 2016 at the age of 33, marking the beginning of her journey as an IPS officer in the Rajasthan cadre.
