IAS Rahul Yadav Leads ‘Nasha Mukt JK Abhiyan’ Mega Drive in Kishtwar; Over 300 Join Anti-Drug Awareness Campaign..
In a significant push towards building a drug-free society, a large-scale awareness programme under the ongoing “Nasha Mukt JK Abhiyan” was successfully organized in Kishtwar, drawing participation from more than 300 individuals. The attendees included government officials, शिक्षकों, छात्रों, and representatives from multiple departments, reflecting a strong and united community response against substance abuse.
The event was organized by the District Administration at the Government Degree College Auditorium under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Sharma (JKAS). The programme highlighted the administration’s proactive approach and commitment to tackling the growing challenge of drug abuse through awareness, education, and rehabilitation.
The programme was graced by IAS officer Rahul Yadav, Managing Director of Jammu & Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited and District Mentor for the campaign, who attended as the Chief Guest. The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by a welcome address by Deputy Commissioner Sharma. In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in combating drug addiction and noted that the district is fortunate to have Rahul Yadav as its mentor, whose leadership is expected to further strengthen the administration.
Providing an update on the campaign’s progress, the Deputy Commissioner informed that since its launch on April 11 under the directions of the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, the initiative has achieved extensive outreach within a short span of 13 days. Awareness programmes have been conducted across more than 760 schools, 136 पंचायतों, and 11 municipal wards. He pointed out that Kishtwar has remained relatively less affected by drug abuse, attributing this to strong community vigilance and effective monitoring mechanisms within educational institutions.
Highlighting rehabilitation efforts, Sharma stated that under Mission YUVA, the district administration has already facilitated the recovery of two individuals affected by substance abuse by providing them financial assistance through institutional loans. He stressed that those struggling with addiction should be treated with compassion and dignity, rather than stigma, advocating for a humane and supportive approach to recovery.
The event also featured a variety of cultural performances designed to spread awareness in an engaging manner. Students from BVM High School presented yoga demonstrations, while students of Sir Iqbal Academy performed a नुक्कड़ नाटक highlighting the dangers of drug abuse. A thematic dance performance by artist Tavishi Anand further reinforced the message of a drug-free society.
Addressing the gathering, IAS Rahul Yadav commended the district administration’s efforts and underscored the critical role of education in preventing substance abuse.
He emphasized the need for capacity building among teachers, sustained behavioural change among youth, and a sensitive yet firm approach towards addressing the issue. He also highlighted the importance of not ignoring suspected drug-related deaths due to social stigma, advocating for proper medical examinations to identify root causes and prevent future cases.
The programme concluded with Rahul Yadav administering the “Nasha Mukt JK Pledge,” where all participants collectively reaffirmed their commitment to creating a drug-free Kishtwar.
