Centre Issues Fresh Appointment Orders: IRS Officer Pryati Sharma Posted to LBSNAA, Shobhendra Bahadur Gets Extension
The Central Government has approved a fresh set of important administrative appointments, deputation extensions, and additional charge assignments involving senior officers across key institutions and ministries. The latest decisions, cleared through Office Memoranda issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) and approved in part by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), reflect the government’s continued efforts to maintain administrative continuity and strengthen leadership across strategic sectors.
The latest orders include the appointment of an IRS officer to the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), extension of deputation tenure for a senior Indian Telecommunication Service (ITS) officer in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, and continuation of additional charge at one of India’s major port authorities.
IRS Officer Pryati Sharma Appointed Deputy Director at LBSNAA
One of the key decisions announced by the Centre is the appointment of Ms Pryati Sharma (IRS-IT: 2015) as Deputy Director at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussoorie.
According to the official order issued under the Central Staffing Scheme, Sharma has been appointed at the Deputy Secretary level for a tenure of four years from the date of assumption of charge or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
LBSNAA, located in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand, is India’s premier civil services training academy and serves as the primary training institution for Indian Administrative Service officers as well as several other civil services. The academy plays a crucial role in shaping future administrators through foundational training, policy orientation, leadership development, and governance education.
Officials said the appointment is significant given LBSNAA’s central role in preparing officers for leadership positions within the Indian administrative framework.
The government order also reiterated existing deputation joining guidelines, under which officers selected for central assignments are expected to assume charge within three weeks of issuance of appointment orders. Failure to join within the stipulated period may attract debarment proceedings under deputation rules.
Shobhendra Bahadur Gets One-Year Deputation Extension in MeitY
In another important development, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the extension of central deputation tenure of senior ITS officer Shri Shobhendra Bahadur (ITS: 1994).
Bahadur is currently serving as Director in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), one of the most important ministries driving India’s digital governance and technology policy initiatives.
As per the official order, his deputation tenure has been extended for one additional year up to August 30, 2027, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Officials familiar with the matter said the extension has been granted to ensure continuity in ongoing projects and policy initiatives being handled by the ministry. MeitY currently oversees several key areas including digital infrastructure, cyber security, e-governance initiatives, semiconductor policy, artificial intelligence frameworks, and technology-driven public service delivery systems.
Bahadur’s continuation is expected to support administrative stability and smooth execution of critical digital governance programmes.
M. Angamuthu Retains Additional Charge of Visakhapatnam Port Authority
The Centre has also approved continuation of additional responsibility for senior IAS officer M. Angamuthu (IAS: 2002), who is presently serving as Chairperson of the Mumbai Port Authority.
According to the order, Angamuthu will continue to hold the additional charge of Chairperson, Visakhapatnam Port Authority, for another six months up to September 21, 2026, or until a regular appointment is made, whichever is earlier.
The extension has been granted to ensure uninterrupted functioning and administrative continuity at the Visakhapatnam Port Authority, one of India’s strategically important maritime and cargo handling hubs on the eastern coast.
Visakhapatnam Port plays a major role in India’s maritime trade and logistics sector, handling significant cargo volumes including minerals, petroleum products, fertilizers, containers, and industrial goods. Efficient leadership at the port authority is considered crucial for infrastructure management, operational coordination, and expansion projects.
Officials said continuation of the additional charge arrangement would help maintain decision-making continuity until a permanent appointment is finalised by the government.
Centre Continues Administrative Restructuring Across Key Sectors
The latest orders once again underline the Centre’s ongoing administrative restructuring exercise aimed at strengthening governance institutions, ensuring continuity in leadership positions, and optimising deployment of experienced officers across critical sectors.
The appointments and extensions cover a diverse range of governance areas including civil services training, digital administration, technology governance, and maritime infrastructure management.
Senior officials said such periodic personnel adjustments are essential for maintaining institutional stability, improving administrative coordination, and ensuring uninterrupted functioning of important government bodies and public sector institutions across the country.
