Rajasthan IAS Promotion Process Gains Momentum; 18 RAS Officers Likely to Be Elevated to IAS

Jaipur: A major development is underway in Rajasthan’s administrative setup as the process of promoting Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS) officers to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) has accelerated. Around 18 vacancies are expected to be filled in the current promotion cycle.

According to sources, the Department of Personnel has already forwarded the complete dossiers of eligible officers — including Annual Confidential Reports (ACRs) and service records — to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The administration is now awaiting the date for the Selection Committee Meeting (SCM), where final recommendations will be made.

18 IAS Vacancies to Be Filled

The ongoing exercise aims to fill 18 vacancies in the Rajasthan cadre of the IAS. Promotions from RAS to IAS involve a rigorous evaluation process, including scrutiny of service records, integrity assessments, vigilance clearances, and overall performance reviews.

The Selection Committee includes representatives from the UPSC, the Central Government, and the Rajasthan Government.

Officers from 1998 and 1999 Batches Among Front-Runners

Sources indicate that several senior RAS officers belonging to the 1998 and 1999 batches are among the leading contenders for induction into the IAS.

However, age-limit criteria may affect the eligibility of some officers, which could narrow the final list of candidates.

Pending Sealed-Cover Cases May Also Be Reviewed

The Selection Committee is also expected to review three pending sealed-cover cases from the previous promotion cycle. These involve:

Arun Prakash Sharma

Ramswaroop

Gopal Ram Birda

Sources suggest that the sealed-cover case related to Gopal Ram Birda is likely to be opened during the upcoming deliberations.

What Happens Next?

With all necessary documents already submitted to the UPSC, the next major step is the convening of the Selection Committee Meeting. Once the committee finalizes its recommendations, the Central Government will issue an official notification formally inducting the selected RAS officers into the IAS.

Why IAS Promotion Matters for RAS Officers

Promotion to the IAS is considered one of the most prestigious milestones in the career of an RAS officer. It allows experienced state civil servants to take on higher administrative responsibilities at both the state and central levels, significantly enhancing their authority, responsibilities, and career prospects.
