Kerala IPS Reshuffle 2026: Government Transfers 10 Senior Officers; Putta Vimaladitya Appointed IG North Zone, Major Changes Across Internal Security, Vigilance and City Police

Kerala Government has transferred 10 senior IPS officers in a major police reshuffle. Putta Vimaladitya becomes IG North Zone, while key changes have been made across Internal Security, Vigilance, Crime Branch, Economic Offences Wing, Kochi City and Thiruvananthapuram Police.

In a significant overhaul of Kerala’s senior police leadership, the state government has ordered the transfer and posting of ten senior police officers, introducing fresh leadership across several critical wings of the Kerala Police. The reshuffle, announced through orders issued by the General Administration Department, affects a wide spectrum of policing functions, including internal security, district policing, armed police battalions, vigilance investigations, economic offences, telecommunications, crime branch operations, and city law-and-order management.

The exercise is being viewed as part of the government’s continuing effort to strengthen operational efficiency, improve coordination among various police units, and ensure experienced officers are placed in positions that demand specialized expertise and administrative leadership.

The transfers cover officers serving at the ranks of Inspector General of Police (IGP), Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Superintendent of Police (SP), and Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), making it one of the more notable police reshuffles undertaken by the state administration in recent months.

Putta Vimaladitya Gets Charge of North Zone

Among the most closely watched decisions in the transfer list is the appointment of senior IPS officer Putta Vimaladitya as the new Inspector General of Police, North Zone.

Until now, he had been serving as Inspector General of Police, Internal Security, a position that involves overseeing critical intelligence inputs, threat assessments, security coordination, and preventive policing measures across the state.

His move to the North Zone places him in charge of policing operations across an important geographical region of Kerala. The assignment carries substantial responsibility, given the increasing emphasis on coordinated district policing, crime prevention, public safety, and intelligence-driven law enforcement.

Officials believe his experience in handling security-related assignments could prove valuable in strengthening policing initiatives across the northern districts.

S. Sateesh Bino Takes Over Internal Security Wing

With Putta Vimaladitya moving out, the government has entrusted S. Sateesh Bino with the responsibility of heading Kerala’s Internal Security wing.

Previously serving as Inspector General of Police, Armed Police Battalions, Sateesh Bino now steps into one of the state’s most sensitive policing assignments.

The Internal Security wing plays a vital role in monitoring potential security threats, coordinating intelligence inputs, supporting counter-radicalization efforts, and ensuring preparedness against emerging security challenges.

Given the increasing complexity of modern policing, officials view this posting as particularly significant.

The appointment is expected to bring fresh leadership to the department at a time when intelligence gathering and preventive security measures remain central to law enforcement strategies.

Key Changes at DIG Level

The reshuffle has also resulted in important adjustments at the Deputy Inspector General rank.

Senior IPS officer Karthick K has been posted as Deputy Inspector General of Police, Kannur Range.

The Kannur Range occupies a strategically important position in Kerala’s policing framework and oversees law-and-order management, crime control, and district-level coordination across multiple jurisdictions.

His appointment is expected to strengthen supervisory oversight and operational coordination within the range.

In another noteworthy development, Narayanan T, whose earlier transfer order had placed him in Kannur Range, will now continue as Deputy Inspector General of Police, Thrissur Range.

The revised decision indicates that the government reconsidered the earlier posting arrangement and opted to retain him in Thrissur, where he is already familiar with the region’s administrative and policing requirements.

Fresh Postings for Senior Superintendents of Police

The transfer exercise has also brought changes at the Superintendent of Police level, affecting specialized police units and investigative branches.

Ajit Kumar, who had been awaiting a new assignment after his transfer from the position of District Police Chief, Palakkad, has now been appointed as Superintendent of Police, Telecom.

The Telecom wing plays a crucial role in maintaining police communication systems, technological infrastructure, secure networks, and operational connectivity across the state police organization.

With technology becoming increasingly important in law enforcement, the role carries significant operational relevance.

Another major change involves Mohanachandran Nair M.P.

He had earlier been posted as Superintendent of Police, Crime Branch, Kozhikode and Wayanad. Under the latest orders, he has now been assigned as Superintendent of Police, Crime Branch, Malappuram.

The Crime Branch handles some of the state’s most sensitive criminal investigations, making the posting particularly important from an investigative standpoint.

Leadership Changes in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram City Police

Urban policing has also seen significant changes through the latest reshuffle.

Senior officer Arun K. Pavithran has been appointed as Deputy Commissioner of Police-2, Law & Order and Traffic, Kochi City.

Kochi continues to witness rapid urban growth, increasing traffic volumes, expanding commercial activity, and complex policing challenges. The position involves overseeing traffic regulation, public order management, crowd control, and city policing initiatives.

His appointment is expected to strengthen operational management in one of Kerala’s busiest metropolitan areas.

Meanwhile, Shahansha K.S., who previously held the same position in Kochi City, has been transferred to Thiruvananthapuram.

He will now serve as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Law & Order and Traffic, Thiruvananthapuram City.

The post had been lying vacant, and his appointment fills an important gap in the capital city’s policing structure.

The transfer places an experienced officer at the helm of traffic management and law-and-order responsibilities in the state capital, where administrative institutions, political activities, and public gatherings frequently demand enhanced policing arrangements.

Vigilance Wing Gets New Leadership

The government has also strengthened Kerala’s anti-corruption machinery through fresh appointments in the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB).

Juvvanapudi Mahesh has been posted as Superintendent of Police, Vigilance & Anti-Corruption Bureau, Southern Range, Thiruvananthapuram.

The VACB is responsible for investigating corruption-related complaints involving public servants and government officials.

The assignment places Mahesh in a crucial role within one of the state’s most important investigative agencies.

As public accountability and transparency continue to remain key governance priorities, the vigilance department is expected to play an increasingly prominent role in monitoring allegations of misconduct and corruption.

Economic Offences Wing Strengthened

Another specialized investigative unit witnessing a leadership change is the Economic Offences Wing.

Shahul Hameed A. has been appointed as Superintendent of Police, Economic Offences Wing, Thiruvananthapuram Range.

Economic offences have become increasingly sophisticated in recent years, ranging from financial fraud and cyber-enabled scams to investment frauds, corporate irregularities, and organized economic crimes.

The Economic Offences Wing serves as a specialized arm tasked with handling such complex investigations.

Officials believe that strengthening leadership in this division will support the state’s efforts to combat financial crimes more effectively.

Government Focused on Strengthening Policing Framework

Administrative observers note that the latest transfer exercise goes beyond routine personnel movement.

The postings appear to be part of a broader effort to align experienced officers with assignments that match their expertise and operational strengths.

The reshuffle impacts several critical policing domains, including:

Internal Security
Regional policing
Armed Police Battalions
Crime Branch investigations
Vigilance and anti-corruption operations
Economic offences investigations
Telecommunications infrastructure
Traffic management
Urban policing
District-level law enforcement

By placing seasoned officers in strategically important roles, the government appears focused on improving efficiency, strengthening accountability, and enhancing the overall responsiveness of the police administration.

Officers Expected to Assume Charge Immediately

According to official orders, the newly posted officers are expected to take charge of their respective assignments without delay.

The changes come at a time when Kerala Police continues to deal with a wide range of responsibilities, including crime prevention, cybercrime investigations, public safety management, intelligence gathering, anti-corruption operations, and urban law enforcement.

With fresh leadership now taking over several important positions, the state government is aiming to ensure smoother administration, stronger coordination among police units, and more effective delivery of policing services across Kerala.
