Bihar Police Reshuffle: Govt Transfers 12 Senior IPS Officers and 53 DSPs; Prita Verma, Amrit Raj, K.S. Anupam Get Key Postings
In a significant administrative overhaul aimed at strengthening the state’s policing and internal security framework, the Bihar Government on Wednesday ordered the transfer of 12 senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers and 53 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs). The large-scale reshuffle affects several crucial wings of the police department, including the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Traffic Police, Special Task Force (STF), Cyber Crime and Security Unit, Railways, Economic Offences Unit (EOU), Bihar Special Armed Police (BSAP), Police Headquarters and district police establishments.
The transfer orders were issued by the Home Department as part of a routine administrative exercise to improve operational efficiency and strengthen leadership across key law enforcement units.
Several senior IPS officers have been entrusted with new responsibilities, while dozens of DSP-rank officers have been shifted to investigative agencies, police training institutions, headquarters and field postings across the state.

The reshuffle includes several important changes at the top level of the Bihar Police.
Prita Verma Gets Charge of Home Guard and Fire Services
Senior IPS officer Prita Verma (1991 batch) has been appointed as the new Director General, Home Guard and Fire Services.
Until now, she was serving as the Director General-cum-Chairperson and Managing Director of the Bihar Police Building Construction Corporation Limited (BPBCCL). Her new assignment places her in charge of two important emergency response organisations in the state.
Pankaj Kumar Darad Takes Over BPBCCL
IPS officer Pankaj Kumar Darad, who was serving as Additional Director General (ADG), Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), has been transferred as the new ADG-cum-Chairman and Managing Director of Bihar Police Building Construction Corporation Limited (BPBCCL).
He succeeds Prita Verma in the organisation responsible for police infrastructure development across Bihar.
Sudhanshu Kumar Assigned Traffic Wing
Senior officer Sudhanshu Kumar, who had been handling the responsibilities of ADG (Law and Order) along with additional charge of Traffic, has now been given full responsibility as ADG (Traffic).
He has also been entrusted with the additional charge of the Special Vigilance Unit (SVU), expanding his administrative responsibilities.
Nirmal Kumar Azad Receives Additional Responsibility
IPS officer Nirmal Kumar Azad (1994 batch) will continue to serve as Director General (Training).
In addition, the government has assigned him the extra charge of Director General, Prohibition and State Narcotics Control Bureau, giving him oversight of another important law enforcement wing.
Amrit Raj Posted as ATS Chief
Senior IPS officer Amrit Raj (1998 batch) has been transferred from the Cyber Crime and Security Unit (CCSU) to head the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) as Additional Director General.
The posting comes at a time when counter-terrorism and cyber security continue to remain major priorities for law enforcement agencies.
K.S. Anupam Gets Law and Order Responsibility
IPS officer K.S. Anupam (1998 batch) has been appointed as the new Additional Director General (Law and Order).
Apart from this crucial responsibility, he has also been given additional charge of the CID’s Weaker Sections Wing, which investigates crimes involving vulnerable sections of society.
Rajesh Kumar Moves to STF
IPS officer Rajesh Kumar (2003 batch) has been transferred from his position as Inspector General, Bihar Human Rights Commission, to become the Inspector General of the Special Task Force (STF).
The STF plays a key role in tackling organised crime, major criminal networks and special operations across the state.
Pankaj Kumar Raj Appointed IG (Rail)
Senior IPS officer Pankaj Kumar Raj (2006 batch) has been posted as the new Inspector General (Rail).
He will supervise policing and security arrangements across Bihar’s railway network.
S. Premlatha Shifted to Bihar Special Armed Police
IPS officer S. Premlatha (2006 batch) has been transferred from the Prohibition and State Excise Control Bureau to serve as Inspector General, Bihar Special Armed Police (BSAP).
She will now oversee one of the state’s important armed police formations.
Rajesh Kumar Sharma Receives Fresh Posting
One of the most closely watched transfers involves Rajesh Kumar Sharma, the former SDPO of Jagdishpur.
Sharma had earlier been placed on line duty after his name surfaced in the controversial Bharat Bhushan Tiwari encounter case.
The Bihar Government has now posted him as Deputy Superintendent of Police, Prohibition and State Narcotics Control Bureau (SCRB), Patna.
The officer continues to remain in public focus because an FIR for murder had earlier been registered against him, then Station House Officer Rajesh Malakar and several other police personnel based on a complaint filed by Bharat Bhushan Tiwari’s mother.
The victim’s family has consistently demanded the arrest of all police personnel named in the case.
Young IPS Officers Given New Assignments
The reshuffle has also brought fresh responsibilities for several young IPS officers.
Garima Posted to BSAP
IPS officer Garima (2022 batch) has been transferred from her post as SDPO-II, Kahalgaon in Bhagalpur district.
She has now been appointed Commandant of Bihar Special Armed Police-9 (BSAP-9), Jamalpur in Munger district.
Shivam Dhakad Becomes Rural SP
IPS officer Shivam Dhakad (2022 batch) has been shifted from SDPO-I, Danapur to the post of Rural Superintendent of Police, Madhubani.
The posting gives the young officer an important district-level leadership role.
Komal Meena Gets Patna Posting
IPS officer Komal Meena (2023 batch) has been transferred from SDPO-I, Masaurhi to become SDPO-II (Law and Order), Patna.
Her new assignment places her in one of the state’s most sensitive policing jurisdictions.
53 DSPs Shifted Across Bihar
Apart from the IPS-level changes, the Home Department has transferred 53 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) to various units and districts.
