ACC Appoints IAS Officer Ajay Singh Tomer as Director in Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare on Central Deputation
The Central Government has approved the appointment of Ajay Singh Tomer (IAS:2012) as Director in the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, under the Central Staffing Scheme.
The appointment has been cleared by the Competent Authority and communicated through an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on July 16, 2026.
Five-Year Tenure Approved Under Central Staffing Scheme
According to the DoPT order, Ajay Singh Tomer has been appointed as Director in the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare for a period of five years from the date he assumes charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The appointment has been made under the Central Staffing Scheme, which facilitates the posting of experienced IAS officers from state cadres to important positions in the Central Government.
Haryana Government Directed to Relieve Officer
The Department of Personnel and Training has written to the Chief Secretary of Haryana, requesting that Ajay Singh Tomer be relieved of his present responsibilities immediately so that he can assume his new assignment in New Delhi without delay.
The communication instructs the state government to ensure that the officer joins the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare at the earliest.
Joining Required Within Three Weeks
The DoPT has also reiterated the existing guidelines governing appointments under the Central Staffing Scheme.
Referring to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) directions issued through DoPT Circular No. 3/4/2004-EO(MM-I) dated August 17, 2005, the order states that officers appointed on central deputation are required to join their new assignment within three weeks from the date of issuance of the appointment order.
It further notes that failure to report within the prescribed period could lead to the initiation of debarment proceedings from the Central Staffing Scheme, in accordance with the applicable rules.
Agriculture Ministry to Issue Formal Notification
A copy of the appointment order has also been forwarded to the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare.
The department’s Secretary, Atish Chandra, has been requested to issue the formal appointment notification and forward a copy to the Department of Personnel and Training once it is notified.
Important Assignment in a Key Ministry
The Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare plays a pivotal role in framing and implementing policies related to agriculture, farmers’ welfare, crop development, agricultural mechanisation, extension services, digital agriculture, and various flagship programmes aimed at enhancing farm productivity and rural prosperity.
As Director, Ajay Singh Tomer will be expected to contribute to policy formulation, programme implementation and coordination on a range of important initiatives concerning the country’s agriculture sector.

The appointment reflects the Central Government’s continued effort to strengthen key ministries by inducting experienced officers from state cadres into strategic policymaking and administrative positions.
