Alok Katiyar Gets Additional Charge of Director (Works) at NHSRCL

Alok Katiyar, who is currently serving as Director (Electrical & Systems) at the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), has been entrusted with the additional charge of Director (Works) in the organisation.

Katiyar will take on the additional responsibility alongside his existing duties. The new arrangement will come into effect from the date he assumes charge of the post, on or after September 1, 2026.

The decision places two important portfolios under the responsibility of the senior officer at a time when the NHSRCL is engaged in the development of India’s ambitious high-speed rail infrastructure. The organisation is implementing the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Corridor, popularly known as India’s bullet train project.

As Director (Electrical & Systems), Katiyar is already associated with a critical technical area of high-speed rail operations. His existing portfolio covers electrical and systems-related aspects, which are central to the design, integration and functioning of a modern high-speed railway.

With the additional charge of Director (Works), his responsibilities will expand to include matters connected with the execution and management of works-related activities within NHSRCL. The additional assignment is expected to involve coordination across various project and infrastructure-related functions.

The NHSRCL was established to develop and implement high-speed rail projects in India. Its work involves coordinating large-scale civil, electrical, signalling, telecommunications and other specialised infrastructure components required for high-speed railway operations.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail project, in particular, involves complex engineering and construction activities across a major rail corridor. The project includes the construction of bridges, viaducts, stations, tunnels and other supporting infrastructure, along with sophisticated railway systems.

Against this backdrop, the Director (Works) position carries substantial operational importance. The officer handling the portfolio is required to oversee and coordinate various works-related activities associated with the organisation’s projects.

Katiyar’s appointment to the additional charge ensures continuity in the senior management structure of NHSRCL while the organisation continues to push ahead with its high-speed rail infrastructure programme.

The arrangement is also notable because the officer will retain his existing position as Director (Electrical & Systems) while simultaneously handling the responsibilities of Director (Works). Such additional-charge arrangements are generally made to ensure that important senior-level functions continue to be managed effectively during a transition or until a regular appointment is made.

According to the latest decision, Katiyar will assume the additional charge on or after September 1, 2026, with the exact date depending on his formal assumption of charge.
