Kerala Government Posts 8 Young IAS Officers as Sub Collectors Across State; 2023 and 2024 Batch Officers Get Key Field Assignments

Kerala Government has issued fresh postings for eight IAS officers of the 2023 and 2024 batches, appointing them as Sub Collectors in Kollam, Thrissur, Thiruvalla, Alappuzha, Thiruvananthapuram, Thalassery, Perinthalmanna and Kottayam.

Kerala Government Hands Field Responsibilities to Eight Young IAS Officers

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Government has carried out a fresh administrative reshuffle involving eight IAS officers from the 2023 and 2024 batches, assigning them as Sub Collectors in key Revenue Divisions across the state. The posting orders, issued on August 17, 2026, place the young officers in frontline administrative roles that will provide them with extensive field-level governance experience.

The appointments span important administrative centres including Kollam, Thrissur, Thiruvalla, Alappuzha, Thiruvananthapuram, Thalassery, Perinthalmanna and Kottayam, reinforcing district administration across different regions of Kerala.

Although some reports initially referred to the exercise as involving seven officers, the official posting list clearly includes eight IAS officers, making it one of the first major field deployment exercises for several members of the 2024 batch.

Young Officers Step into Crucial Administrative Roles

The latest posting orders mark an important milestone in the careers of these young civil servants. As Sub Collectors, the officers will become part of Kerala’s district administration framework, where they will handle responsibilities ranging from revenue administration and land matters to disaster management, election-related duties and coordination of government welfare programmes.

For newly inducted IAS officers, Sub Collector postings are widely regarded as one of the most significant phases of administrative training, offering first-hand experience in dealing with citizens, local governance institutions and district-level implementation of government policies.

The latest appointments therefore represent much more than routine transfers. They serve as the foundation for future leadership roles within the state administration.

Revenue Divisions Play a Vital Role in Governance

Each of the newly assigned officers will now oversee administration within their respective Revenue Divisions, which function as critical links between district headquarters and local administrative units. Sub Collectors are entrusted with a wide range of responsibilities that extend beyond revenue matters alone.

The role also requires close coordination with District Collectors, police officials, local self-government institutions and various departmental officers.

Postings Spread Across Kerala’s Key Administrative Centres

The appointments have been distributed across multiple regions of the state, ensuring administrative reinforcement in both urban and rural areas. Among the major locations receiving new Sub Collectors are:

Kollam, one of southern Kerala’s important coastal districts, where S. Mohana Priya will now take charge.

Thrissur, often regarded as Kerala’s cultural capital, will receive Ehteda Mufassir as Sub Collector.

Thiruvalla, an important administrative centre in Pathanamthitta district, will now be headed by Parvathy Gopakumar in the Sub Collector’s role.

Alappuzha, known for its extensive backwaters and tourism economy, has been assigned Sivasakthivel C.

The capital city division of Thiruvananthapuram will now have Swati Mohan Rathod serving as Sub Collector, while Thalassery, Perinthalmanna and Kottayam have also received fresh IAS leadership through Ravi Meena, Archana P P and Sakshi Mohan respectively.

2023 Batch Officers Take on Bigger Responsibilities

Among the eight appointments, S. Mohana Priya and Sakshi Mohan, both belonging to the 2023 IAS batch, represent officers who are entering the next phase of their administrative journey with significant field responsibilities.

Their postings to Kollam and Kottayam respectively provide opportunities to lead sub-divisional administration while building practical governance experience across diverse sectors.

Six Officers from the 2024 Batch Enter Field Administration

The remaining six appointments belong to officers from the 2024 IAS batch, making this one of their earliest major field assignments after joining the service.

For these officers, the postings offer valuable exposure to real-time governance challenges involving land administration, public service delivery and district-level coordination.

Such assignments are considered essential in helping young IAS officers develop decision-making skills before progressing to larger district and departmental leadership positions.

Important Clarification on the Number of Officers

An interesting aspect of the administrative order is a discrepancy that appeared in some reports. While parts of the information initially referred to the reshuffle as involving seven IAS officers, the actual list issued by the government contains eight names, corresponding to postings in districts viz. Kollam, Thrissur, Thiruvalla etc.

The complete posting list therefore confirms that eight officers have received fresh assignments.

Strengthening Kerala’s Administrative Framework

The latest posting exercise reflects Kerala’s continued emphasis on placing young IAS officers in field-level governance roles early in their careers.  By assigning officers across multiple Revenue Divisions, the government has sought to strengthen district administration while ensuring that newly inducted civil servants gain practical experience in handling public administration at the grassroots.

As these eight officers assume charge across different parts of the state, they will become central figures in implementing government programmes, managing revenue administration and responding to local governance challenges, laying the foundation for their future leadership within the Kerala cadre of the Indian Administrative Service.
