Allegations and Counterclaims Rock Chhattisgarh Police: IPS Officer Ratanlal Dangi and Cop’s Wife Trade Serious Accusations
A senior IPS officer in Chhattisgarh, Mr. Ratanlal Dangi, has been accused of sexual harassment by the wife of a sub-inspector, triggering a storm within the state’s police establishment. The Chhattisgarh government has ordered a high-level probe into the matter to examine both sides of the controversy.
Woman’s Complaint: Allegations of Prolonged Harassment
In a written complaint to the Director General of Police (DGP) on October 16, the complainant—wife of a serving sub-inspector—alleged that Mr. Dangi subjected her to physical and mental harassment over several years. She claimed the ordeal began in 2017, during his tenure as Superintendent of Police, Korba, and allegedly continued through his subsequent postings in Surguja, Bilaspur, and later at the Police Training Academy, Chandkhuri, where he currently serves as Director.
The woman’s complaint states that the officer would summon her to his residence in the absence of his wife, use his authority to intimidate her, and later coerce her into video calls where he continued the harassment. She further claimed that she was threatened with her husband’s transfer to a Naxal-affected region if she refused to comply.
According to her, years of fear and anxiety over her husband’s career kept her silent, but the alleged psychological strain eventually compelled her to speak up.
Officer’s Response: “A Case of Blackmail, Not Harassment”
Denying all allegations, Mr. Ratanlal Dangi, a 2003-batch IPS officer, has described the complaint as a fabricated and vindictive act. He stated that the woman has been attempting to blackmail and extort him for years by creating compromising videos and messages.
In his own complaint to DGP Arundev Gautam, Mr. Dangi alleged that the woman tried to control his personal life, stopped him from speaking with his wife or attending family events, and forced him to remain on long video calls daily. He further claimed that she threatened to leak private content if he resisted her demands and would resort to self-harm or emotional manipulation when confronted.
He also accused the woman of creating public scenes outside his residence, showing explicit material to domestic workers, and attempting to disrupt his family life.
Investigation Ordered by State Police Headquarters
After both complaints were received, the Chhattisgarh Police Headquarters set up a two-member inquiry panel to examine the allegations and counterclaims. The committee, headed by Dr. Anand Chhabra and Ms. Milna Kurre, both senior IPS officers, has been tasked with investigating the matter in detail and submitting its findings.
An audio clip allegedly linked to the case has also surfaced online, where the woman can reportedly be heard denying certain parts of the accusations and asserting that the “truth will emerge through the official inquiry.”
Official Stand: Zero Tolerance for Misconduct
Reacting to the incident, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai reaffirmed that the state government follows a zero-tolerance policy toward misconduct, emphasizing that no individual—regardless of rank or position—is above the law.
The inquiry is ongoing, and both parties are expected to present evidence supporting their respective claims as the case continues to unfold within Chhattisgarh’s police administration.
