IPS trainee Uday Krishna Reddy, who rose from serving as a Marine Constable in the Andhra Pradesh Police to clearing the UPSC Civil Services Examination, has found himself at the centre of a serious criminal investigation.
The 2025-batch IPS probationer was admitted to a private hospital in Hyderabad on Monday after allegedly attempting suicide. The incident came barely a day after reports emerged that an internal inquiry conducted at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) reportedly found substance in allegations of sexual harassment levelled against him by a fellow IPS trainee.
The developments have sent shockwaves across the policing fraternity and among UPSC aspirants, as the young officer’s remarkable journey is now overshadowed by a high-profile investigation and disciplinary action.
Hospitalised After Alleged Suicide Attempt
According to reports, Uday Krishna Reddy allegedly attempted suicide and was rushed to a private hospital in Hyderabad’s SR Nagar area. Doctors are said to be treating him, and reports have described his condition as critical.

The complainant further alleged that the situation later escalated into physical intimidation and assault.

Sending sexually explicit and abusive WhatsApp messages.
Making derogatory remarks in front of fellow trainees.
Wrongfully restraining her and taking her into his room against her wishes.
Pulling her hair and allegedly attempting to strangle her.
Threatening her with a knife.
Throwing packets of condoms to intimidate her.
Allegedly touching her inappropriately and sexually assaulting her.
Secretly recording a private video without her consent.
Sending the video to her husband to allegedly blackmail her.
Circulating false information to damage her reputation.
The complainant has requested strict legal action.

Police Register FIR Under Multiple Laws
Following the complaint, the Attapur Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Uday Krishna Reddy.
The case includes multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) dealing with offences related to assault, stalking, intimidation and crimes affecting the dignity of women.
Investigators have also invoked provisions of the Information Technology Act, including Sections 66E and 67A, which relate to privacy violations and the transmission of sexually explicit electronic material.
Police have stated that the investigation is continuing and evidence is being examined.
Internal Inquiry at the National Police Academy
Alongside the criminal investigation, the National Police Academy reportedly initiated an internal inquiry into the allegations.
According to reports, the inquiry committee reviewed CCTV footage and other material before submitting its findings.

Who Is Uday Krishna Reddy?

He lost his mother when he was barely four-and-a-half years old. Years later, he also lost his father while still in his teens.
Orphaned at a young age, he was brought up by his maternal grandmother Ramanamma, who supported the family by selling vegetables.
