Centre Reshuffle: IPS Ashish Mishra to SSB, ISS Pankaj Kumar Appointed in DPIIT, IRS Lokesh Jain Gets Key Role in Petroleum Ministry

In a fresh round of administrative reshuffles, the Central Government on Wednesday issued a series of appointment and transfer orders involving officers from key civil services, including the IPS, ISS, and IRS cadres. The changes reflect the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen governance by placing experienced officers in strategically important roles.

IPS Officer Posted to SSB

Ashish Kumar Mishra, a 2013-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the AGMUT cadre, has been appointed as Commandant (General Duty) in the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).

The SSB is a key border-guarding force responsible for securing India’s frontiers and supporting internal security operations. Mishra’s appointment is considered operationally significant, as the role involves leadership in border management and coordination in sensitive regions.

ISS Officer Appointed in DPIIT

Pankaj Kumar, a 2016-batch officer of the Indian Statistical Service (ISS), has been appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade.

He will serve a tenure of four years, during which he is expected to contribute to policy formulation and implementation related to industrial development, investment promotion, and internal trade. DPIIT plays a central role in improving the business environment and driving economic reforms in India.

IRS Officer Gets New Assignment

Lokesh Kumar Jain, a 2009-batch officer of the Indian Revenue Service (Customs & Indirect Taxes), has also been reassigned.
His tenure as Director in the Department of Water Resources River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation has been curtailed. He has now been appointed as Private Secretary to Suresh Gopi, Minister of State in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, at the Director level. The role is considered significant, as it involves close coordination with the minister and handling key administrative and policy matters.

Administrative Significance

Such appointments and transfers are part of routine administrative processes aimed at optimizing governance by aligning officers’ expertise with the needs of different ministries and departments. The latest reshuffle highlights the government’s focus on strengthening critical sectors such as border security, industrial policy, and energy administration through strategic placements of skilled officers.
