Centre Approves Re-designation of Deputy Secretary Post for Vaibhav Rundwal (IES, 2012) in the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs
The Government of India has officially cleared the re-designation of the Deputy Secretary–level position held by Mr. Vaibhav Rundwal, an officer of the Indian Economic Service (2012 batch), currently serving in the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA).
The approval, granted through an administrative order issued recently, brings a formal change to the nomenclature and status of the post he occupies within the ministry.
According to the order, this re-designation has been approved as a measure ‘personal to the officer’, meaning the modification recognizes the substantive responsibilities Mr. Rundwal has been handling and ensures that his official designation is aligned with the scope and complexity of his ongoing assignments.
Mr. Rundwal has been engaged in several policy-oriented and analytical roles within the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, contributing significantly to urban governance, infrastructure development frameworks, housing schemes, and data-driven policy evaluations. The re-designation aims to provide him with an appropriately updated administrative identity that reflects the strategic nature of his work.
The decision also highlights the government’s continued emphasis on strengthening mid-level leadership within key ministries, particularly those involved in crucial sectors such as urban development, housing policy, municipal reforms, and national missions related to sustainable and smart urbanization.
All relevant administrative units under MoHUA have been instructed to update the service records, internal documentation, and official databases to reflect the revised designation. The ministry will also take requisite steps to ensure that Mr. Rundwal’s new title is incorporated into all official communications, workflow systems, and policy files.
This move further underscores the Centre’s recognition of officers who have demonstrated professional diligence, technical expertise, and commitment to national policy objectives. By revising the position held by Mr. Rundwal, the government aims to enhance operational clarity and maintain continuity in critical policy-driven tasks within the ministry.
The re-designated role is expected to enable Mr. Vaibhav Rundwal to shoulder broader responsibilities, engage more directly in high-level planning processes, and contribute even more effectively to the ministry’s long-term objectives.
