Centre Approves Extension of Central Deputation Tenure of IAS Officer Nikhil Pavan Kalyan in Odisha Till June 2028

The Government of India has granted approval for the continuation of the central deputation tenure of Mr Nikhil Pavan Kalyan, a 2012-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Odisha cadre, who is currently serving as DCO/DCR in the state of Odisha.

According to the decision taken by the competent authority, Mr Kalyan’s deputation, which was earlier scheduled to end on December 31, 2025, has now been extended for an additional period. Under the revised arrangement, he will continue in his present central deputation assignment until June 15, 2028, or until further orders are issued, whichever occurs earlier.

Official records indicate that Shri Nikhil Pavan Kalyan has been on central deputation with effect from June 16, 2025. The extension has been approved to ensure continuity in a key administrative role that involves coordination with central authorities and implementation of nationally significant programmes.

In his current capacity as DCO/DCR, Shri Kalyan is entrusted with important responsibilities related to civil registration systems, demographic data management, and liaison with the Office of the Registrar General of India. His role is considered vital for maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and timely dissemination of population and civil registration data, which form the backbone of evidence-based policymaking.

Officials familiar with the development stated that the decision to extend his deputation tenure reflects administrative requirements as well as the need for sustained expertise in specialised assignments.

The extension will remain effective until June 15, 2028, or until further directives are issued by the competent authority, in accordance with prevailing rules governing central deputations.
