The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested former IAS officer Amit Prakash on Tuesday in connection with the ongoing Jharkhand liquor scam investigation. After a day-long interrogation, Prakash was taken into custody and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.
Prakash, a promoted IAS officer, had served in key roles, including as Commissioner of the Excise Department and Managing Director of the Jharkhand State Beverages Corporation Limited (JSBCL), until December 2024.
ACB officials stated that his arrest followed substantial evidence, and he was formally informed of the charges against him. Before being produced in court, Prakash underwent a standard medical examination.
Now retired, Prakash is the second senior bureaucrat to be arrested in the case. Earlier, on May 20, IAS officer Vinay Choubey and former Excise Joint Commissioner Ganjendra Singh were detained. The next day, the ACB arrested three more individuals—JSBCL General Manager (Finance) Sudhir Kumar Das, General Manager (Operations & Finance) Sudhir Kumar, and Neeraj Kumar Singh, a local agent of M/s Marshan Innovative Security Service Limited—as the probe into the alleged scam expanded.
