Haryana Government Reinstates Former SP to Restore Order in Violence-Hit District
In response to escalating extortion-related firing incidents, the Haryana government has reassigned 2014-batch IPS officer Kamaldeep Goyal as Superintendent of Police (SP), Yamunanagar, replacing Surender Singh Bhoria, who held the position for less than three months.
Background: Yamunanagar Faces Crime Spike
Over the past three months, Yamunanagar and surrounding areas—including Bilaspur and Jagadhari—have witnessed multiple firing incidents targeting traders from the liquor sector, plywood industry, travel agencies, and commission businesses. Notably, two shootings occurred within a 30-minute window on a single night, intensifying fear among residents and business owners.
The rise in criminal intimidation has reportedly discouraged participation in recent liquor zone auctions, with many zones remaining unsold due to security concerns.
Strategic Reassignment
Kamaldeep Goyal, who served as SP Yamunanagar from 2020 to 2022, was currently posted as Assistant Inspector General (Provisioning) at Panchkula HQ. His reassignment is viewed as a tactical measure aimed at restoring control, given his familiarity with the district’s crime patterns and track record in field policing.
Sources within the Home Department believe Goyal’s return will help reassure traders and rebuild public trust amid the current wave of unrest.
Transition Status of Outgoing SP
Surender Singh Bhoria, also a 2014-batch officer, was appointed as SP Yamunanagar on April 25, 2025. His tenure ends amid ongoing instability, and his next posting is yet to be notified by the Home Department.
Voices from the Ground
Local traders, shaken by the continuous threats, have urged strict action. A member of the trader association remarked:
“There’s a climate of fear. With daily firing and extortion threats, business has become dangerous. We hope SP Goyal acts firmly against these criminal gangs.”
