Centre Extends Central Deputation of IAS Officer M. Sundaresh Babu as DCO/DCR for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Till June 2028
The Government of India has approved a further extension of the central deputation tenure of Mr M. Sundaresh Babu, a 2012-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Karnataka cadre, who is currently serving at the Deputy Secretary level as DCO/DCR with charge of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
According to an official memorandum issued by the Office of the Registrar General of India (RGI) on December 10, 2025, the competent authority has sanctioned the proposal to continue Mr Sundaresh Babu’s deputation beyond its earlier end date of December 31, 2025. Under the revised decision, his tenure on central deputation will now remain in force until June 22, 2028, or until further orders are issued by the government, whichever occurs earlier.
Official records show that Shri M. Sundaresh Babu has been serving on central deputation with effect from June 23, 2025. The extension has been approved under the provisions of the Central Staffing Scheme, which governs the appointment and continuation of All India Service officers to posts under the Central Government.
In his present role as DCO/DCR, Shri Sundaresh Babu is responsible for overseeing critical functions related to civil registration systems, demographic data administration, and coordination with the Office of the Registrar General of India across Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Puducherry. His assignment involves close collaboration with state and UT administrations to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and timely submission of population and civil registration data.
Officials indicated that the decision to extend his deputation reflects the need for continuity and experienced leadership in assignments linked to national demographic databases and governance mechanisms. The extension order will remain valid until June 22, 2028, or until further directions are issued by the competent authority, in line with the Central Staffing Scheme.
