DoPT Appoints IAS Officer Manish Mishra as Deputy Secretary in Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals

The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has approved the appointment of Shri Manish Mishra (IAS:2015: West Bengal cadre) as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals under the Central Staffing Scheme.

The appointment has been notified through an Office Memorandum issued by the Office of the Establishment Officer, marking another key posting under the Centre’s ongoing deployment of officers to important ministries and departments.

Appointed While on Compulsory Wait in DoPT

According to the DoPT order, Manish Mishra, a 2015-batch IAS officer of the West Bengal cadre, is presently on compulsory wait in the Department of Personnel and Training.

He has now been selected for appointment as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals, Government of India, under the Central Staffing Scheme.

Four-Year Tenure Approved

The Competent Authority has approved his appointment for a period of four years from the date he assumes charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

The posting places the officer in one of the Union Government’s key departments responsible for policy formulation and development of India’s chemicals and petrochemicals sector.

Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals to Issue Notification

The Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals, headed by Secretary Tejveer Singh, has been requested to issue the formal notification of Manish Mishra’s appointment after he assumes charge and forward a copy to the Department of Personnel and Training.

The appointment order has also been endorsed to the Chief Secretary, Government of West Bengal, for information.

Role in a Key Industrial Ministry

As Deputy Secretary in the Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals, Manish Mishra will be associated with policy matters concerning one of India’s strategically important industrial sectors.

The department is responsible for:

Development of the chemicals and petrochemicals industry
Promotion of investments in the sector
Formulation and implementation of industrial policies
Encouraging sustainable manufacturing practices
Strengthening domestic production and global competitiveness

The department functions under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers and plays an important role in supporting industrial growth and economic development.

Appointment Under the Central Staffing Scheme

The posting has been made under the Central Staffing Scheme, through which officers from various state cadres are deputed to the Central Government to serve in policy-making and administrative positions across ministries and departments.

Such appointments are intended to bring experienced field administrators into the Union Government, strengthening governance and improving policy implementation.

Official Order Issued by DoPT

The appointment has been notified through an Office Memorandum issued by the Office of the Establishment Officer, Department of Personnel and Training, and signed by Ajit Kumar Ranjan, Deputy Secretary to the Government of India.

With the appointment of Manish Mishra as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals, the Centre continues its regular process of inducting capable officers into key administrative roles under the Central Staffing Scheme to support effective governance and policy execution across ministries.
