IAS Officer Charu Joins Rajasthan Cadre, Becomes Latest Woman Bureaucrat to Shift Post-Marriage
Continuing a growing trend of marriage-based inter-cadre transfers, Rajasthan has welcomed another woman IAS officer into its bureaucracy. The Central Government has approved the transfer of IAS officer Charu (2022 batch, Tripura cadre) to the Rajasthan cadre, following her marriage to IPS officer Sujit Shankar (2020 batch, Rajasthan cadre).
The official approval was issued on Thursday, marking the sixth cadre transfer to Rajasthan in the last five months—four of which involve female officers. All transfers fall under the Government of India’s marriage-based inter-cadre transfer policy.
A Growing Trend: Marriage-Based Transfers Boost Rajasthan’s Administrative Strength
According to All India Services rules, officers may request a cadre change if their spouse belongs to another cadre. Either partner can apply to move to the other’s cadre, subject to approval from both the Central and State Governments.
In recent months, this policy has led to a steady influx of married IAS and IPS officers into Rajasthan, bringing diverse administrative experience and enhancing the state’s bureaucratic depth.

Administrative Expertise with Inter-State Perspective
These transfers have brought officers from Tripura, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and AGMUT to Rajasthan, enriching the state administration with cross-cadre exposure and a broader governance perspective.
Experts believe this rising trend of marriage-led cadre convergence is reflective of a modern civil service culture that values both personal compatibility and professional collaboration. It not only strengthens administrative functioning but also promotes inter-state exchange of knowledge and best practices.
