Meghalaya PSC Schedules Half-Yearly Departmental Examination for IAS and IPS Officers from June 9 to 12, 2026 in Shillong – Applications Close June 2
Shillong, May 2, 2026: The Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) has officially announced the conduct of the Half-Yearly Departmental Examination for Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, scheduled to take place from June 9 to June 12, 2026, in Shillong.
The announcement was made through a formal notification issued on April 28, 2026, which comprehensively outlines the examination schedule, the application procedure, venue details, language components, and the mandatory eligibility requirements that applicants must comply with.
Examination Venue and Schedule
The examination will be held at the official premises of the MPSC Office Building, situated at Lower Lachaumiere in Shillong, Meghalaya. The Commission has enclosed a detailed day-wise examination programme along with the official notification, and all eligible officers are advised to carefully review the programme to ensure thorough preparation and timely compliance with procedural requirements.
Application Process and Submission Deadline
Officers who wish to appear in this examination are required to download the prescribed application form, officially titled “Application Form for Half Yearly Departmental Examination, 2025,” from the Meghalaya Public Service Commission’s official website. Once duly completed, the application form must be submitted in physical form to the Secretary of the Meghalaya Public Service Commission at the Commission’s office in Shillong. In addition to this, applicants are also mandatorily required to inform the Personnel (A) Department of the Meghalaya state government about their intent to appear in the examination.
The last date for the submission of completed application forms is June 2, 2026. The Commission has issued a firm and unambiguous directive that no applications received after the stipulated deadline will be considered or processed under any circumstances. Furthermore, the Commission has explicitly clarified that no fresh applications or late submissions will be entertained at the examination centre on the day of the examination. Officers are, therefore, strongly urged to ensure timely submission well before the closing date.
Mandatory Information Required in the Application Form
The Commission has directed all applicants to fill in the application form carefully and completely, ensuring that all required fields are accurately completed in block letters.
The details that must be furnished include the candidate’s full name, current designation, place of posting, and cadre — specifying whether the officer belongs to the IAS or the IPS cadre. The Commission has categorically warned that applications that are incomplete, illegible, or submitted without the required information are liable to be summarily rejected without further consideration.
Language Proficiency Examination
A significant component of the Half-Yearly Departmental Examination is the assessment of language proficiency, which forms an integral part of the evaluation of officers serving in the northeastern region of India. Candidates will be tested in multiple regional and national languages, including Assamese, Bengali, Hindi, Khasi, Garo, Lushai, and Mikir.
Among these, the examinations in Khasi, Garo, and Lushai will be conducted using the Roman script, while the Mikir language examination will be conducted in the Assamese script. All language papers will be conducted at the prescribed academic and administrative standard as notified by the Commission.
Significance of the Half-Yearly Departmental Examination
The Half-Yearly Departmental Examination is a periodically conducted assessment that serves a critical function in evaluating the professional competence, administrative readiness, and linguistic capability of IAS and IPS officers posted in Meghalaya.
The examination is designed to ensure that officers at all levels maintain the requisite standards of governance, regional language proficiency, and knowledge of departmental rules and procedures — all of which are essential for effective public administration in a linguistically and culturally diverse state such as Meghalaya. Officers are advised to adhere strictly to all guidelines issued by the Commission and to consult the detailed examination programme enclosed with the official notification for complete subject-wise and date-wise scheduling information.
