Nagaland’s Bureaucracy in Turmoil: Staff Strike Over IAS Induction Sparks Statewide Shutdown
A major administrative standoff has gripped Nagaland as government employees, under the banner of the Joint Coordination Committee (JCC), have launched an indefinite pen-down strike. Their protest stems from the state’s controversial decision to induct officers into the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) who were not recruited through the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC), raising concerns over transparency and merit-based selection.
Strike Intensifies Amid Unresolved Dispute
The JCC, comprising five prominent service associations—CANSSEA, FONSESA, NSSA, NIDA, and NF&ASA—announced the continuation of their strike after talks with a cabinet sub-committee failed to yield consensus. The protest began with a three-day pen-down action starting October 14, where employees reported to work but refrained from performing duties. By October 16, the strike was extended indefinitely, bringing government operations across the state to a near standstill
