Mr. Sudhakar Burgi, a retired IAS officer and current member of the Odisha Staff Selection Commission (OSSC), has been appointed as the acting Chairman of the OSSC in Bhubaneswar. This appointment comes in the wake of the resignation of Mr. Abhay, former Director General of Police (DGP) and OSSC Chairman, whose resignation was formally accepted by the Odisha Government on May 19, 2025.
An official notification from the General Administration and Public Grievance Department stated:
“After careful consideration of the representation dated 19.05.2025 of Mr. Abhay, Government has been pleased to accept the resignation of Mr. Abhay, Chairman, Odisha Staff Selection Commission with immediate effect.”
The notification further confirmed:
“Mr. Sudhakar Burgi, IAS (Retd), Member, Odisha Staff Selection Commission, is hereby permitted to act as Chairman, OSSC, Bhubaneswar, in addition to his existing responsibilities, until further orders.”
Mr. Burgi was previously appointed as a member of the OSSC for a tenure of five years or until he reaches the age of 65, whichever occurs earlier. His appointment and service conditions are governed by the OSSC (Method of Recruitment and Conditions of Service of the Chairman and Members) Rules, 1995.
In addition to this development, two new members have been inducted into the OSSC:
-
Mr. Udaya Narayan Das, a 2010-batch IAS officer and Director of Census Operations
-
Ms. Shruti Das, former Professor of English at Berhampur University
While the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) is responsible for recruiting candidates for Group A and select Group B civil services, the OSSC plays a key role in recruiting for Group B and Group C non-technical posts across various state departments and offices.
