Rajasthan Chief Secretary V Srinivas Gets Six-Month Extension Till February 2027

The Central Government has approved a six-month extension in service for V Srinivas, a 1989-batch IAS officer of the Rajasthan cadre, allowing him to continue as Chief Secretary of Rajasthan until February 28, 2027. The extension will take effect from September 1, 2026, ensuring continuity in the state’s top bureaucratic position.

The approval allows Srinivas to remain at the helm of Rajasthan’s administrative machinery beyond his scheduled retirement date, giving the state government continuity in its highest civil service office during an important phase of governance and policy implementation.

Centre Clears Six-Month Extension

According to the official approval, V Srinivas (IAS: 1989, Rajasthan cadre) has been granted an extension in service for six months, from September 1, 2026, to February 28, 2027.

Service extensions for Chief Secretaries require approval from the Central Government and are generally granted in exceptional circumstances when continuity in senior administrative leadership is considered necessary. The latest decision means Srinivas will continue to serve as Rajasthan’s Chief Secretary for another six months while leading the state’s civil administration.

Continuity at the State’s Top Bureaucratic Post

As Chief Secretary, V Srinivas occupies the highest bureaucratic position in the Rajasthan government. The office plays a central role in coordinating the functioning of various departments, advising the state government on administrative matters, overseeing policy implementation and ensuring coordination between the government and the civil services.

The extension ensures that the state administration will continue under the leadership of an experienced officer already familiar with the government’s priorities, ongoing programmes and institutional framework.

A Senior Rajasthan Cadre Officer

V Srinivas belongs to the 1989 batch of the Indian Administrative Service and has served in several important administrative positions during his career. Over the years, he has handled assignments across different sectors in both the state and central governments, gaining extensive experience in public administration, governance reforms, finance and policy implementation.

His continuation as Chief Secretary allows Rajasthan to retain an experienced administrator in its top civil service position for another six months.

Why the Extension Matters

Extensions for Chief Secretaries are relatively uncommon and typically reflect the government’s preference for maintaining stability in senior leadership when major administrative responsibilities or ongoing initiatives require continuity.

By extending Srinivas’ tenure until February 28, 2027, the Centre has ensured that Rajasthan’s highest-ranking civil servant will continue overseeing the state’s administrative coordination, governance priorities and departmental functioning without an immediate leadership transition.

The six-month extension provides the state government with continuity at the top of its bureaucracy while giving the administration additional time before a new Chief Secretary takes charge.
