In a rare inter-cadre deputation within the Indian Police Service (IPS), 2012-batch IPS officer Om Prakash Meena, originally from the Tamil Nadu cadre, has been approved for a three-year deputation to Rajasthan. This marks the first such IPS deputation to Rajasthan in nearly a decade.
A Noteworthy Shift
While inter-cadre transfers and deputations are fairly common among IAS officers — with four cadre transfers and one deputation to Rajasthan already occurring in 2025 — such movements are far less frequent in the IPS. The Ministry of Home Affairs approved Meena’s deputation citing “personal difficulties”, primarily due to his wife, Anju Omprakash, a 2006-batch Senior RAS officer, currently serving as Additional Resident Commissioner in New Delhi. She belongs to Jaipur.
A Look at Om Prakash Meena’s Background
A native of Rajasthan, Om Prakash Meena initially served in the Rajasthan Accounts Service between 2006 and 2011, with postings in Jaipur and Kota. He later cleared the Civil Services Examination, joined the IPS, and was allotted the Tamil Nadu cadre.
During his tenure in Tamil Nadu, he served as Superintendent of Police in five districts and received praise for his leadership during the Covid-19 pandemic in Tirunelveli district.
What Lies Ahead
With his deputation approved, Meena now awaits his official posting from the Department of Personnel in Rajasthan. As officers from the 2011 batch have already been promoted to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) earlier this year, there is significant interest in what role Meena will assume within the Rajasthan Police.
