The Government of India has assigned 1989-batch Maharashtra cadre IAS officer Rajesh Aggarwal the additional responsibility of Secretary, Ministry of Minority Affairs, while he continues to serve as Secretary in the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan).

The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issued an order on May 13, 2025, approving Aggarwal’s temporary assignment from May 14 to May 23, 2025. This interim arrangement covers the leave period of Chandra Sekhar Kumar (1992-batch Odisha cadre IAS), the regular Minority Affairs Secretary.

A veteran administrator with rich experience in social sector governance, Aggarwal’s dual charge ensures seamless functioning of the Minority Affairs Ministry during this transitional period. The move highlights the government’s practice of leveraging senior bureaucrats’ expertise to maintain administrative continuity.

The temporary assignment comes as part of routine administrative measures to handle senior officials’ leave periods while maintaining operational efficiency in critical ministries.
