MHA Approves Re-designation of Deputy Secretary Post as Director for AGMUT IPS Officer Guripal Singh
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has granted formal approval for the re-designation of the post of Deputy Secretary, currently held by Shri Guripal Singh, IPS (AGMUT: 2012), as Director in the Ministry of Home Affairs. The decision has been cleared by the Competent Authority as a personal upgradation in respect of the officer concerned.
According to the official order, the re-designation will come into effect from 1 January 2026 or from the date on which Shri Guripal Singh assumes charge of the re-designated post, whichever occurs later. The upgraded designation of Director will remain valid up to 24 February 2030, corresponding to the admissible tenure of five years under the Central Staffing Scheme.
The order further clarifies that this re-designation is a measure personal to the officer and does not constitute a cadre restructuring or a permanent upgradation of the post itself.
In addition, it has been specified that the central deputation tenure of Shri Guripal Singh, IPS (AGMUT: 2012), commenced with effect from 24 February 2025 (Afternoon), in accordance with the applicable rules governing central postings of All India Service officers.
This move reflects the government’s practice of aligning officer responsibilities and designations with experience, seniority, and tenure norms under the Central Staffing Scheme, while ensuring administrative continuity within the Ministry of Home Affairs.
