Competent Authority Approves Premature Repatriation of Senior IRS Officer Sanjiv Shankar to Parent Cadre for Promotion Benefits

The Competent Authority has formally approved the premature repatriation of Shri Sanjiv Shankar, a senior officer of the Indian Revenue Service (Income Tax), belonging to the 1993 batch. Shri Shankar has been serving as Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution. This decision facilitates his return to his parent cadre, enabling him to avail the benefits of promotion in line with his career progression.

Premature repatriation is an administrative mechanism within the Government of India that allows officers serving on deputation in other ministries or departments to return to their original cadre before the completion of their deputation tenure.

Such measures are often taken to ensure that officers do not miss out on crucial career advancements, including promotions, seniority entitlements, and other service-related benefits. In this case, Shri Sanjiv Shankar’s repatriation reflects the government’s commitment to balancing cadre management with the professional growth of senior officers.

During his tenure as Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Shri Shankar played a pivotal role in overseeing financial planning, budgetary allocations, and expenditure management for key programs related to consumer welfare, food security, and the distribution of essential commodities. His expertise in financial administration has contributed significantly to strengthening the ministry’s operational efficiency and policy implementation.

By returning to his parent cadre, Shri Shankar will now be positioned to assume responsibilities commensurate with his new rank, thereby advancing his career trajectory while continuing to contribute to the institutional framework of the IRS.

This move underscores the government’s emphasis on recognizing the service of experienced officers and ensuring that their professional growth remains aligned with organizational requirements.
