In a recent bureaucratic move, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has approved the premature repatriation of IAS officer Saurav Pahari (2008 batch, West Bengal cadre) to his parent cadre on personal grounds. Pahari was serving as Deputy Chairperson of the Tea Board in Kolkata.
Repatriation Cleared by Competent Authority
As per the official order issued on June 6, 2025, the proposal was initiated by the Department of Commerce, under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and subsequently approved by the competent authority. This marks an early end to his central deputation.
Nearly Two Years Ahead of Scheduled Term
Saurav Pahari had joined the Tea Board on March 15, 2022, for a five-year tenure. However, his repatriation comes 1 year and 9 months ahead of schedule. While the official communication cites “personal grounds,” no further details have been disclosed regarding the reasons for his early return.
Career Profile and Contributions
A 2008-batch IAS officer of the West Bengal cadre, Pahari has held various administrative positions in the state prior to his central posting. During his stint with the Tea Board, he was involved in efforts to modernize the tea industry, enhance exports, and strengthen welfare initiatives for tea garden workers.
Future Course and Successor
No immediate successor has been announced to fill the vacancy left by Pahari. However, officials in the Ministry of Commerce indicate that a new appointment may be made shortly to ensure leadership continuity at the Tea Board. Upon his return to West Bengal, Pahari is expected to receive a new posting within the state administration.
