Significance of Selection Grade in the IPS
The Selection Grade represents a senior-level advancement in the Indian Police Service, generally awarded after 12 to 14 years of service. It acknowledges an officer’s professional competence, leadership capacity, and administrative experience. Officers promoted to this grade are typically entrusted with critical operational responsibilities, key supervisory roles, and strategic decision-making functions within the policing and internal security framework.
This latest round of promotions is expected to further strengthen leadership depth and operational effectiveness across the AGMUT cadre.
