ACC Approves Appointment of Jatin Chopra as Private Secretary to Social Justice Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Shri Jatin Chopra, an officer of the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) from the 2011 batch, as Private Secretary to the Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Dr. Virendra Kumar. Chopra will serve at the Director level for a tenure of two years and eight months, or on a co-terminus basis with the Minister, whichever is earlier.

This appointment marks a significant step in strengthening the administrative support available to the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, which plays a crucial role in advancing inclusive policies and programs for marginalized communities across India. The ministry is tasked with implementing welfare schemes for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and other disadvantaged groups.

The role of the Private Secretary is pivotal in ensuring smooth coordination between the Minister’s office and various stakeholders, including government departments, civil society organizations, and the public.

Shri Jatin Chopra, with his background in the Indian Railway Traffic Service, brings with him a wealth of experience in logistics, operations, and administrative management.

Officers from the IRTS are known for their expertise in handling complex organizational structures and ensuring efficiency in service delivery. Chopra’s appointment is expected to enhance the operational effectiveness of the Minister’s office, particularly in managing the wide-ranging responsibilities of the Social Justice and Empowerment portfolio.

Dr. Virendra Kumar, the Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, has been leading several flagship initiatives aimed at promoting social equity and empowerment. These include programs for skill development, scholarships for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, and measures to improve accessibility for persons with disabilities.

With Chopra as his Private Secretary, the Minister will have dedicated support in overseeing these initiatives, ensuring timely execution and effective communication with stakeholders.

The ACC’s approval of this appointment underscores the importance of placing experienced officers in key ministerial positions to provide continuity and efficiency in governance. The tenure of two years and eight months offers Chopra a substantial period to contribute meaningfully to the ministry’s objectives, while the co-terminus clause ensures alignment with the Minister’s term.

This development also reflects the government’s broader strategy of leveraging the expertise of officers from diverse services to strengthen administrative machinery across ministries. By appointing officers like Jatin Chopra to critical roles, the government ensures that ministries benefit from professional competence, organizational skills, and a commitment to public service.

Shri Jatin Chopra’s appointment as Private Secretary to Dr. Virendra Kumar is therefore not only a recognition of his capabilities but also a strategic move to reinforce the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment’s mission of building a more inclusive and equitable society. His role will be central in supporting the Minister’s vision and ensuring that the ministry’s initiatives reach the intended beneficiaries effectively.
