Senior IPS officer Sunil Kumar Jha (IPS:1993:BH), currently serving as Special Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), has been appointed as the next Director General, Fire Services, Civil Defence & Home Guards.
According to an official order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on June 14, 2025, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved his appointment. He will serve in this capacity until his superannuation on January 31, 2027, or until further orders—whichever is earlier.
Jha is set to take over the post on July 1, 2025, following the retirement of the current DG, Vivek Srivastava (IPS:1989:GJ), on June 30.
With extensive experience in India’s central armed police forces, Jha’s appointment reflects the government’s continued focus on enhancing fire safety, disaster resilience, and civil defence preparedness across the country.
